Hear a hissing sound in y-pipe
I just bought the warpspeed ss ypipe with the lined flex section. I had the shop put it in on monday. I drive the car normally and i hear a noise coming from the ypipe its kind of like a hissing noise but it sounds like rice too. It's not really loud but its there. Is the y-pipe supposed to make this sound? I thought the lined flex section would eliminate this. The car pulls great though, just kinda confused about this sound im getting. Can anyone help me?

I have a hiss in mine too but I didn't noticed it till way later then the inital date of install. I thought my warpspeed was leaking too but it's good to hear that it's normal.

I had the same thing with my Warpspeed ss y-pipe. I went to a shop to have them check it for leaks, and they said it was ok. I ended up wrapping the pipe with headerwrap from just below the O2 sensors all the way back to the catalytic converter. This made a big improvement in the reduction of noises coming from the pipe

Well, this is how my WSP is now, after the wrapping, just needed to be hugged

Where exactly did u wrap the y-pipe? I never seen a headerwrap, only heard of it could you explain?

Mine was fine for the first 3 weeks, then I developed a slight leak where it mounts to the Catalytic converter. The gasket that they give you is not as good as the factory metal one. I just bought a new factory gasket, but I won't get a chance to put it on until next weekend.

I bought the headerwrap on Ebay for around $28 dollars, I believe this price also included shipping. It was a 50ft. roll, and 2 inches wide. I began to wrap it all the way back from just below the O2 sensors to where the y-pipe meets to a single collection tube. At this point I had used big hose clamps to hold the wrap in place just below the O2 sensors and where I stopped wrapping it. I then wrappep from where I left off, where the two tubes become one all the way back to the catalytic converter (did not wrap the cat, just where the pipe hooks up to it), held this in place with more large hose clamps, and that was it. It made a substantial improvement in reducing the annoying noises

anyone here go from a Budget to a Warpspeed or the other way around?
how do they compare in sound?
i am getting my budget installed next week and i dont like LOUD.. i am keeping the stock catback.. i want it as quiet as it can get..
curious which pipe sounds better
warpspeed is supposed to be more quiet because of the lined flexsection

Looking at the stock Y pipe, it's no surprise any aftermarket Y is louder. The metal of the cast stocker is much thicker, throw in the precats for some more sound deadening too. More noise is a common side effect on any car when putting on headers in place of cast iron stock manifolds. Our cars have short manifolds and the long down tubes of the Y. I wrapped my Warpspeed Y head to toe before installing it and still get a some sounds from the air rushing through it above 5k rpm. I can live with that, the engine makes more noise anyway, seems to blend right in.

I agree with you. I think the stock y-pipe is thicker and has some insulation, as well as the two precats. I thought I read that it was aluminized steel though. Anyway, before I wrapped my pipe the sounds I was hearing became very irritating. I tried just wrapping the flex section, and it helped some, but the rest of the pipe also transmited noises due to it being thin/not insulated. Once I wrapped the whole pipe the sounds were almost eliminated. I still get a slight hiss type sound in the higher RPM's but the difference is like night and day, the slight noise I get now is something I can also live with, and like you said the engine drowns it out. I like my car to be quiet and doing this made driving my car with the windows down enjoyable again.

The hissing noise is caused by the exhaust gas flowing over the corrugations of the flex section, the noise you hear is turbulence created, because we use a lined flex it eliminates most of the hissing sound and most of the turblnce. We don't really suggest the header wrap because it traps mositure and dirt but if it helps.

What I had was mostly bees in a can sound, along with hissing. For a while I thought I may have a leak, but I did not. I tried to live with the noise, but after a while I even thought of putting back the stock unit

My WSP non-mandrel lined-flex y-pipe hisses at WOT only. It almost sounds like a turbo hiss in a way. I kind of like the sound and it lets me know where my motor is in the rpm range without having to look at the tach. My WSP isn't remotely as loud as my Stillen y-pipe was.
