me vs. honda civic ex + *7 runs* me vs. honda civic hatch DX 5-spd(SI swapped!)

rice fobby me doesn't usually race. but today i broke my rule and decided to share my stories.

[me vs. civic ex]
so after saying goodbye to matthel (turbo95max) at import revolution in san mateo, CA, i was just heading down to milpitas with my buddy for some food. we saw a riced out 98+ civic EX with glow gauges and light etc. i pulled infront of him and turn on my hazard light. 3..2...1.. i punched about 70% throttle. around 80mph he was 3 cars behind me, at 90mph he was about 6 cars. i pulled all the way up to 110mph and slowed down and went back to 75mph cruise. didn't see him until 1 minute later.

[my vs. 91 civic hatch DX 5-spd]
my friend just got his engine swap done in his hatch, here is his mods:
- civic SI b16A2 engine swapped
- weapon R short ram intake
- DC 4-2-1 header
- 15" HR tires
- no tachometer
- no back seats

we waited until 1 am where traffic are mostly cleared, we made 7 runs.

[50mph-100mph]
1st run - practice, doesn't count
2nd run - he pulled about 1 whole car infront of me with my buddy in his car
3rd run - i pulled about 1 car infront of him with my buddy in his car
4th run - dead even with my buddy in my car
5th run - i cheated, got a head start and had 1 car on him with my buddy in my car
**6th run - the best run, we both hit 100% throttle at the same time and we were dead even with my buddy in my car

[0mph-50mph]
7th run - he had 1/2 car infront me, he chirped between 1-2gear. my buddy was in my car. i had some wheel spin at launching

his shifts are kinda slow, and since he doesn't have a tachometer it makes it even harder to shift. yeap...be awared those sleepers. those little swapped civics are fast.

If swapped Civics can't beat 15 second auto maximas, then they aren't fast.

Good kill.

well...he didn't have a tachometer, and i guess he was kinda new to 5-spd. so i took his driver's error into account.

but definetly scary how that little things just keep gaining on me. i'm kinda surprised i can keep up with him even with my friend in my car(+180lb).

LMAO! Never race the VW jetta 1.8t or GLI, espcially the GLI. I had more low-end power(torque) than the Jetta 1.8t, i took him off start then he started to gained on my maxima around 40mph and took the lead at 65mph.
The Jetta GLI is 6speed Manual 6cylinder 2.8L, and almost took my girls G35, it stayed with her up to around 75mph, then the engines size started to take effect along with the G35's Zero Drag aerodynamics...

uhmmmm, a Civic hatch with a B16 5speed should easily take you. Seems either he cant drive, was shifting early, or VTEC wasnt hooked up/working. Who did the swap? theres alot of B16 swaps with non working VTEC. yea sorry i like Maximas too...but you shouldnt even hang with a normal working B16 Civic in a 4th gen.

yeap he got his swap done less than a month. he used to drive an automatic camry and still tryin to get a grip on the hatch. he did mentioned that he did not shift correctly, and probably didn't know where his red-line is.

me and my friend gonna help him install a tacho and race again, the result should be different by then.

The incline has nothing to do with it, the system probably does. That thing looks hillarious...
