A question about ATF flush/refill???????

I figured there was a good reason why no one has suggested or done it yet but I will ask this question anyway: Can I flush the old transmission fluid with an ATF that is a less expensive substitute then refill it with Amsoil ATF? Is this method problematic? Thanks for any replies and insight from the org.

Thanks for the thread it was helpful...Can anyone answer my question on using a less expensive synthetic ATF just to flush my old transmission fluid? has anyone done this before whileperforming a flush of the old fluid? I intend to use Amsoil but want to save a few dollars if possible.

Doesnt every one do this? I remember reading a lot of threads like this one. Isisnt it also good to just keep a little of the old Tranny oil still in to help break in the new oil or something like that?

when flushing, there is little actual mixing of the new and old...you only "waste" around 2 quarts so figure you could save $8 if you cheap out on it....which is only a fraction of what you are already saving by doing it yourself. Though, admittedly I have used a name brand like Valvoline to use as the first 6 quarts, then used Mobil ATF for the last 6....I did this same thing on my MAX and that was 15,000 miles ago and still runs like a top (115K on the clock now). The tranny did feel much better after this.

good luck.
