What do eyelids do for the headlights??

What do eyelids do for the headlights??

I was just wondering , i see some people have "eyelids" on there max's headlights. does it effect the beam of the light of is it just for looks??

I think its just for looks...Their usually not big enough to interfere with the beam pattern...

oh, I thought it maybe gave the headlight beam a straight edge look on top the beam, which would look nice. You know, kinda the way BMW headlights look but but with out the HID.

Nothing you do to the lens of a headlamp will affect the beam pattern. You must control either the source of light, projector lamps do, or in the case of reflector type lamps, you must shield part of the light source (H4 bulb) and use the correct reflector form.

Anything you do to the lens will almost always affect the beam. it is just less noticeable since you have it located near the top of the lens. Blocking glass is blocking glass, so unless you are using clear eyelids (pointless if they do exist) you will block some insignificat light.

Blocking the top of the lens does nothing to form a cutoff because the "eyelid" is not covering the bottom half of the lens. The light that shines upwards comes from the bottom portion of the reflector. If anything, you're blocking light that will normally shine down, close to the front of the car.
