what's the difference between 95-96 and 97-99
what's the difference between 95-96 and 97-99
There's 190hp on 95-96 stock, and 222hp on 97-99... why is this? is it the same engine, and just a few things have been changed? can I do minor changes to my 96 to get my hp up to a 97-99??
the 222hp didn't come till 2000 model year. Its the same engine block but with changes to the intake runners, exhaust and ECU characteristics, thats as far as i know. Plus the 2000s have the whole restyle thing.
this brings up and interesting point, although I know that they are all the same (4thgen) hp wise. I did see alot of websites saying it was 220hp at the crank for 99 models while doing research before i purchased my 99se

99 had two distinct models
late 99's had a preview for the 2k.
i can't recall exactly what the HP is, but it's up with the 2K.
other than that, all 4th gens were created equal (generally speaking)
i think the 99ES is the unique model......... not SE

Dave,
I don't believe there was a 99ES model. In fact I'm pretty sure that there isn't one...maybe you're referring to the SE-L model which is slightly different from the regular SE. All 4th gens are supposed to be created the same, but like others have mentioned there are some cosmetic differences as well as mechanical ones with relation to where the EVAC cannister is located, and wiring harnesses are different

Cosmetically, the taillights are swapped from 95-97 to 98-99. On the older ones, the actual taillights are on the bottom of the two rows. The turn signals are on the top. On the 98-99, the taillights are on top. Also, there is a little difference in trunk lid. On the older ones, it comes in toward the car a little, and on the newer ones...there is a little air foil that sticks out ever so slightly. Those are the most glaring differences besides wheels, of course.
I have heard there are chips available for 99.5. Are there not? I know that we have a different ECU, but I thought it was still able to be modified with a chip.
