The clutch on my 95 SE is starting to wear out (I believe). I have to press the pedal quite far before it grabs. Not all the way to the carpet, but I'd say 3/4 of the way. Is there a way to adjust the pedal so that it would grab a little higher, or do I need a new clutch? How much would a replacement one cost (w/ labor)? I've never had a manual car so I really have no idea. Thanks.

 

It cost me a little over 600bucks parts+labor when my old maxima's clutch went. I was able to adjust the clutch on my older model, I am not sure about anything newer.

Make sure the flywheel gets resurfaced with the new clutch install.

 

you can't adjust the clutch if it is hydrolic, like the max's. Does it slip a lot or it just isn't picking up good?

 

I don't actually what "slipping" would feel like. All I know is that I have to push the pedal in alot to make it bite. Also, I can start the car without having the clutch pressed at all. The other day, I just shut off the car when I was in a hurry, and left it in gear. When I came to start the car again, I didn't press the clutch (because I don't need to as said above) and the car just started moving forward. Could this be related at all?

 

i don't think that the clutch being worn would have anything to do with that. I believe that it is a sensor that "senses" if the clutch is fully depressed, If you have automatic start as an option this would bypass that mechanism. To see if your clutch is on its way out, try to chirp second. If the clutch feels like it isn't really grabbing then it is "slipping".
