Question About Studs??
take wheel off
unbolt brakes
pull off rotor
hammer out old stud
either use a presser or while holding the stud in place, put the rotor back in place, and tighten a lugnut back on
reinstall everything else

reinstall everything else
You have to remove the hub assembly (part with the studs in it) from the car to do this install properly.
Pound out the old studs with a hammer and a punch (don't hit the ends of the old studs directly with a hammer, as you can damage the first threads, making them unusable)
With the hub assembly secure in a vise, insert the new stud and using a socket as a spacer, along with a large washer, thread one of the lug nuts onto the new stud & using a socket & torque wrench, draw the stud securely into the hub assembly until it is completely seated in the hole.
It should take approximately 120 ft/lbs to draw the stud all the way in.
I suspect the problem you encountered was a result of the stud not having been securely seated in place - this would explain why it spun in the hub assembly.
