Manual tranny question?

Hey i was reading eurotuner ( bimmers are my pasion) and it was talking about putting automatic trans. fluid in a manual gearbox for smoother shifting and fluidity. Is this true has anyone else heard about this? If this is true how do i go about doing this?

i wouldn't recommend trying it on your own car...HA. Seriously, ATF is designed for the needs of hydralics, wet clutches and so on. An automatic still has gears and bearings in it but the layout (both gear design and oil distribution) is significantly different in a manual versus an auto. There could be conflicts with the detergents and other additives as well that ATF might have that a GL-4 does not.

Put in a good synthetic GL-4 oil and you'll notice a big improvement....Amsoil has a dedicated GL-4, and Redline make a GL4/GL5 compatible gear oil as well.

If Automatic fluid performed better than, and was better for, your manual , why would there still be fluid for auto and oil for manual. I know, it's a marketing ploy right? I wouldn't try it.
