Exhaust piping diameter affect tone?

Exhaust piping diameter affect tone?
Lets say I went from 2.25" piping all the way back to 2.5". Would this affect the exhaust tone? Also, one more question. When I had my dual exhaust installed, they had to replace the drivers side pipe after the split cause of the bad condition of the other one. I looked under there today and see they replaced it with 2" instead of 2.25" like the rest of the exhaust. Would this have a big effect on the sound? Cause now my setup goes Y-pipe: 2.5" B-pipe: 2.25" section before one muffler:2"

Yeah, a bigger diameter less restrictive pipe definitely gives you more noise.
I replaced my exhaust in two sections. First was a WSP Y pipe and resonated test pipe. I knew the WSP Y was much thinner metal than the stock Y and that the precats of the stocker would deaden a good bit more sound than the aftermarket Y, so I wrapped the WSP pipe head to toe for more noise deadening. Left the resonated test pipe alone. The sound of these two substitutions was only slightly louder than stock.
Next, I replaced the B pipe with a resonated Budget replacement for bigger tubing and less restriction for the final run to the muffler. I noticed the factory pipe had pink insulation batting anchored to it with metal shields and clamps, where it wrapped around the gas tank. I assumed this was for heat shielding for the gas tank, but knew it gave added noise dampening to the stock pipe as well. So, I double wrapped the last 2/3 of the Budget replacement B pipe. My muffler is the stock 4th gen to keep noise down. The B pipe added quite a bit of noise to the exhaust sytem. Although resonated like the stock pipe and double wrapped by me, this simple diameter change from 2.25" to 2.5" dramatically changed the noise volume and tone of the exhaust out of the muffler.
