Struts for a 98 SE

I am not an expert mechanic, but I think I need front and rear struts.
I have over 94,000 miles and there is rattling in the front right and in the right rear is sounds or feels kind of dead when I go over bumps. I also pushed on the read end and could hear air releasing from the right rear strut.

I took to Nissan and they quoted me $974 for the front and $630 for the rear. Is this excessive?

They didn't list all the parts but from what I could see, the struts were ~ $67.00 then there was a whole list of other parts. Mounts, boots, ets. I think the mounts were aroung $112.00.

I want the ride I used to have, is this what it takes?

KYB GR-2s are what you want, they can be had for $260 shipped, for all 4.

Search for more info on installation and ordering.

Get the following:
Struts/shocks (GR-2s - $260)
New springs (if you want to lower your car - $100-$200)
New front strut bearings (you need 2 of them for the front struts, none for rear)
New dustboots (KYB SB103 for front and SB108 for back)

You don't need new mounts, I wasted my money on it since my old ones were fine. If you get new springs to lower your car, wrap them with vinyl tubing or wire wrap so they don't rub. Reuse your old spring isolators and you'll be fine.

For the install, do it yourself or pay someone that's near you. Ask here: http://forums.maxima.org/forumdisplay.php?f=42

Dont mean to jack your thread, but my dad's mechanic told him his rear shocks were bleeding. He needs to get them replaced, but he doesn't want anything but stockers. Mechanic quoted him $300 something. He's got a 96 SE and I'm wondering if ANY 4th Gren (95-99) rear shocks will work.

Yes they will.

OEM struts are not worth the money. Tokico blues will give him the OEM ride quality for much less $$.

I'd buy them used from the for/sale thread

Well, that might not be the best idea. Struts are definitely a wear item with a life of about 100k miles. I dont think it would be worth the little $$ saved to get used ones.
