I have some money ($600) right now and I kind of want to spend it on performance parts. I can't decide which to go for first.

1. Y-pipe and b-pipe
2. Y-pipe and Injen CAI intake
3. Or should I wait and get some more money to buy a y-pipe, b-pipe, 5th gen muffler, and Injen CAI intake all at the same time?

I'd suggest a #2...I think you would DEF feel that and you would be very satisfied. 5th Gen Muffler as far as I am concerned is only for looks...0 performance (ok so maybe 1hp). So go for the Y and Intake.

budget y+b are $350 shipped, and you have enough to get either the CAI or the muffler. If I were you I'd get the muffler and just hack your air box...

I wouldn't really mind trying to hack my airbox, but for some reason I am worried about doing that to the stock airbox.

Also, here comes another question. My Maxima is dead stock, so it doesn't even have one of those factory style spoilers on it. Maybe I should go spoiler and y-pipe instead. Hmmm, I hate decisions sometimes.

I think I might just go y-pipe and factory style spoiler first. There is way too much controversy over intakes...maybe in a month I can limit my choices down. What do you guys think? Spoiler and y-pipe first?

sure, i have been testing out the intakes on the 4th generation. i started with the frankencar/jim wolf Popcharger. then did the injen intake which i have now, and my next intake will be the cattman cai.

so im selling to help pay for the next intake.

How much are you selling your injen for? Where did you buy it from in the first place?

Ceaser, there is one thing I don't understand with ecus. Wouldn't I have to take the chip in my car out and send it to technosquare to get the performance for it? Or do they give you another ecu? I don't understand...I am a newbie.

since your a 97 you would need to buy a used ecu out of a 96 that matchs your transmission. example: i have a 97/SE/Manual. I bought a 96/SE/Manual ecu and sent it in to technosquare.

check the 4th gen classifieds for a 96 ecu

check out www.car-parts.com
select 1996
nissan maxima 82 and up
select part: computer box engine

match your transmission and trim and try to select a from 11/95

just search for a cheap one but they go for much less in the classifieds 60-85 dollars.

good luck

Do they send you a new ECU and you pay a core charge if you don't send your's or do you have to send the core??

I have the second selection and I am very happy with it. I would suggest eventually getting all of it though.

I say 1. Get the budget y-pipe and b-pipe. Then hack your airbox and put a k&n insert in. I know for a fact it gives me more power than the CAI.
Plus the weather is getting cooler so you dont need to worry as much about cool air until next spring. If you go ahead and get that back pressure lessened you will be better off for the winter. You probably would not even notice the CAI in cold weather.
Look for a good ECU upgrade too. Once I added that my car changed more than any other N/A mod.
Unless you plan on going with NOS or Forced induction.
