How much for a new transmission?

I was just wondering how much a new transission (5sp) would cost (parts & labor)

versus

a used or rebuilt one, and what you'd reccomend

1500 total, with a sued tranny from mzmtg's above metnioned site, and try and get a VLSD, not that much more $$. As for the price give or take, maybe you should check around, but that's about what I would pay.

i screwed up big time when getting my new tranny. when i should have ordered a VLSD brand new, it never evencrossed my mind. 5 spd tranny for my 95 max costed me $2400 and some change. i dont care much for rebuilds. sad part is it came with a 3,000 mile warrenty!..LMAO

definitly go with the VLSD, my buddy just ogt it and it does help alot.

ok..for those who did the tranny swap, isn't it better to just go out and find another maxima that's MT already? i kno it's almost impossible to find one but it should come out eventually, rite? and after u guys have done the swap, are there problems such as leakage and other things...is it worth it in the long run? thanx

The cost of a new VLSD trans and open diff are roughly the same. I've even seen the new VLSD for about $20 less less than an open diff model. If you wanna go the new route look at a dealership that does discounting, like Courtesy Nissan,Pinnacle Nissan or Jerry Rome - they should come in at 1500-1750 new(+100-150 S&H). If you change to VLSD, you'll have to change to a VLSD dr side CV axle which will run 100-150 used or ~350 new from a discount dealer, so in the end it is more. Used, the trans are expensive, roughly double that of a used 4th gen engine, typically ~600-1000 (+100-150 S&H).
