New to the forum. Please be patient with me.

Was in a minor front end collision with my 1996 Maxima, both airbags deployed. I'm a pretty experienced auto & paint guy (10 years ago) but know nothing about airbags. With this in mind, looking for some guidance:

1) Since the airbag deployment, the gear shift (auto) has difficulty coming out of park. Is this related to the airbag deployment?

2) Since all the body shop estimates came up to about $3000 just to replace the airbags, I thought I would shop online, purchase and do a self install.

a) Does anyone have any experience with www.fivestarairbags.com?
b) How difficult are airbags to install? Anything special I should know about? Any other sources to get airbags and triggering device at a discount?

3) Advice on best sources of body parts?

Sounds right, 1500/bag.

 

I know quite a bit about this stuff so here it goes....
#1... No the bag does not effect this system.. It can be a variety of issues but i would start w/ the part that shifts the tranny on the tranny.. it probably got bent in the wreck..
#2... Quite an easy job just takes about 1.5hrs and a special tamper resistant torq bit.
#3... Look for the bags on Ebay and the sale area.. I have sold 3-4sets on the org in the past and $600 is fair for the bags and module...

ok... Now for the airbag install you NEED to own 2 bags and the module.. You NEED the module because they are one time use.. To install you need to disconnect the battery both +/- .. The Negative is more important.. You do the complete install and then reconnect.. the module is under the center consul.
