Oh wow.
Sorry I didn't see this earlier.

You should've googled it before attempting.
Pretty standard for all airbag equipped steering wheels need the power disconnected at the battery for a while before even touching it.

You ok?
Just scared the crap out of you at worst I hope.

There is a video for the 4th gen on youtube. Search for "remove maxima steering wheel". It is almost identical to the 5th gen, so watch it.

also, look in the steering section of the service manual - http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/2001/ST.pdf

Torx screwdriver set....Autozone should have it, call first....save time and headache
Make sure to disconnect ur battery for 10 min atleast so them air bags don't deploy.... yellow connectors are air bag ones so becareful not to damage em.

That doesn't look like a torx. My 02 has a security torx but the pic looks like a different type of security bolt with the center having a shape instead of just a round post. It looks similar to a locking lug nut.

Interesting, I'll have to check the 00 when the wife gets home. I deal with e-torx all the time and this doesn't look like one. It could be the light but this one seems to have an irregular shape with an irregular raised outer section that would prevent an e-torx socket from fitting over it.

I still think it looks like this type of security bolt where there's a specific socket for it.
