i have a lot of wind noise, and it became even more apparent after sound deadening my car. do any of you guys have the same problem 60+ mph and you can hear air whooshing. I'm thinking of chAnging the rubber seals around the doors. do you think this will help and how much will it cost? thanks

Same problem, but only from right rear window. There's a small defect at the top of my seal, so that might be where it's coming from. I haven't priced new seals yet or looked into what it takes to get them swapped out. It's pretty annoying, but the Bose is more powerful than the wind noise...

wind noise

I think it is pretty normal to hear some sort of wind noise in any car. I hear noise around 60/65--not that bad, but that is bc I pay attention to it.
Othwrwise, with the bose on, it is quiet in there.

SWEETSOUND2001, Like your SE wheels.
How much and where did you buy?
Are you running 225/50's?
I was thinking of the same wheel and running 235/50's.
U think 235/50's would fit OK?
thanks, E

This post is actually pretty funny, b/c I used to have the same problem. It's actually quite simple to fix...

(1) I put my two 12inch Infinity Kappa subs up for sale on ebay.
(2) I sold my piece of **** amp (it wasn't MTX, it was Pioneer but they're on the same level) to a friend.
(3) I purchased an Alpine V12 MRV-1507 and one 12 inch Kicker Solobaric L7 solo and installed them.
(4) I pressed the little up arrow on my CVA-1005 until it said the number '24'.

DONE...after that I couldn't hear much of anything except BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

I hope this helps!

SWEETSOUND2001,
Your not getting a reply because no one has an answer
for you.
Here is what I would suggest, try to narrow the noise down
to a particular area or door where it seems to be the
loadest. Inspect that areas rubber seal for any defect.

You could try to add some kind of extra rubber to that area
or you could order brand new nissan rubber to see if that
cures your noise.
maybe compare your rubber to a friends quiet max. ride.

I would experiment with 1 door at a time to see if it has
any effect before spending any more money.

Let me know how it works out because I am always looking
for a way to make the cab quiet.
goodluck, E

Another very simple suggestion is to have one of your friends drive your car while you sit in each position and search for noise. That's how I found out where the tire whine I had in my old car was. Two things to consider. 1.)When cold rubber is rather firm and because of this, you aren't going to get a great seal unless the ambient temperature is at least in the sixties to seventies. 2.) NO car is airtight. Make sure the sound isn't coming from the HVAC system, arond the speakers in the door or a very slightly ajar sunroof. BTW, to answer your question, I don't have any wind noise at speed unless it it rather windy.. Only thing I hear is the tire/road noise. Anyone know it GLEs came with more sounddeadening material?

yea, the tire noise will be eliminated very soon as im getting my entire car coated with rubber undersray that is 1/2 inch think and very light. its like rubber that bubbles up. Gonna cost me $250 though, but no more road noise, just engine and wind noises. so as you can see im trying to eliminate all noises. The gle's probably have exactly the same amount of sound deadening but ema95 said that i30's have like 150 pounds more of it than max. i don't know about that.

The first thing to do is determine the source of the sound. Equip yourself
with a 4-foot length of small-diameter rubber vacuum hose. Auto parts
stores usually sell this in bulk at US$0.50 per foot. Have an assistant
drive, leaving you free to search for the objectionable wind sound.
Put one end of the hose in your ear and pass the other end all around the
periphery of each door. You will discover where the sound is loudest.
There may be more than one area which requires attention.

After this road test is concluded, open the door(s) which exhibit the
sound. Examine the weatherstrip in the identified "loud" locations.
If it has come away from the body metal, use weatherstrip cement to reattach
it. If it is securely in place, examine it for damage and apply whatever
remedy seems appropriate (see below).

You may be able to replace short segments with new weatherstrip purchased
from the dealer or a local auto upholstery and trim shop.

You may be able to bolster the existing weatherstrip by cementing a strip
of generic foam weatherstrip beside the factory rubber. You can buy
inexpensive generic material at a home improvement superstore (Home Depot,
etc.).

You may be able to build up small damaged areas of factory weatherstrip with
one or more layers of black silicone rubber RTV caulking.

Hi SWEETSOUND,
I read though your home page about the sound deadening stuff and was very impressed. I don't have time but some day I'd like to do it just like what you did. If I only do a small section of it now to lower the overall noise, what would you suggest to do first?
I read some articles saying the ouside rear view mirrors cause wind noise at high speed. Could we put some buffer (rubber or the like?)between the mirror and the mounting on the car body, so the wind noise can be attenuated to some degree?

Thanks
