Just curious...

On the last visit to my dealer, I noticed that all of the 2001 Maximas had the external wind deflector mounted on them. Is this now standard on the car (or did my dealer just have a few extra lying around? LOL) If they are standard, did they remove the automatic one?

I'm not certain I see the advantage of the external deflector... at least for me, the metal one that slides up does a pretty good job of keeping the wind out.

I have taken my wind deflector off before and noticed a big difference in wind turbulance inside the car. I put it back on quickly!!

I am not sure how much wind deflectors are....but my guess is that the dealership itself pays close to nothing for them...and then tries use it as a bargaining tool when someone is buying the car. "Okay, sir how do you feel about doing this deal right now if we throw in the wind-deflector." (I hate car salesmen!) That is probably why that particular dealership has them on all of their cars.

I too, took mine off then put it back on

They only run about 50 and do cut down on turbulence without interfering with sunroof opening. I hate honda ones that cover 1/3 of the sunroof itself.

Only downside? they tend to make some lines in the clear coat over time. (at least here with our 115 degree summers)

Yeah, they are about $50, but the dealer probably only pays about $20 or less for them...instant bargaining tool.

hmm... so they come off an on easily?

They looked as if they were glued on. I don't really get much turbulence in the car though (although I've never ridden in the back seat though).

its a much quiter ride when its on

like talking on the cell phone.. It installs with clips. 5 min install. the clips do not scratch the paint as they clip to the opening of the sunroof and what part it does touch is protected by clear tape (the tape goes inside the sunroof.) removes easily. I would prolly not have the lines (you cannot see them, but I can ) if I had taken the thing off and got a good coat of wax on the there when I had the chance.

Warning!! Warning!!

Be careful when you take your car to auto car washes with the deflector on. I saw my friends deflector get cracked for some strange reason last week at simonize. Of course, the people at simonize are truly pros. They replaced deflector (Cost) for him on thursday.

That sucks, but they handled it in a very professional manner.

I wouldn't dare drive through a car wash with the antenna on my car.
