Impure thoughts

I'm thinking about selling my max. I drove a 2001 camaro SS the other day and man that thing hauls. On the highway I was going 90 and in 6th gear the engine was purring at 2K. I know it won't last as long as the max but I think it's worth it to buy the car and put 500$ of mods into it and be in the 12's. What is your guys opinion of these cars.

Those cars are tight
they are damn fast, in my friends we hit 200 mph and we could have kept going! and they dont look too bad, but it costs a lot more than a maxima. but i wouldnt recomend getting a used one, cuz your gonna have problems up the ***! but if you gonna get a new one, and you can afford i think 35k go for it.

Two things:
1. I used to own a 97 Z28 with a Lingenfelter Intake, Hypertech Program Upgrade and Borla Exhaust. I loved that car. It was fast, loud and a definitely more fun to drive than my Max. At 60k miles, I started hearing some lifter tap and that bothered me. It didn't effect performance at all though. I ended up selling it due to the fact that I needed something more practical. I never had any other problems with it though.
2. There is no way in this universe that a Z28 can hit 200MPH (unless it's downhill in neutral with a 200MOH tailwind). Even a highly modified Lingenfelter Z28 with weel over 400HP has a hard time getting near 200.
If a Corvette Z06 with no rev limiter cannot hit 200 how could a less powerful Z28? Not a chance.
I'm sure you'll reply with some sort of well thought out, intelligent, profanity laced tyrade, but unless you can change the laws of physics, 200MPH??? naw!

The SS is nice but
The SS is nice, but kinda expensive. Your usually a camaro fan or a mustang fan. I prefer a mustang...i don't like the new ones to much, but if i were going to get a sports car, i would get a 96-98 cobra. My friend had one and babied it so much. He paid like 30k for it new and 3 years later he only had 10k miles and sold it for 21k. People usually treat an expensive car better...in general, a cobra is going to better taken care of than a mustang gt and a SS is going to be better taken care of than a regular z28.
If you only drive 10k a year or so, then get a sports car...i use to have a mustang, but i started putting a lot of miles on....i do 25k a year or so now in my max...97 se, 105k...still runs great
BTW...no way a stock SS can do 200mph

Well from what I read, 200mph will take at least 500hp or so and some pretty tall gears. So if the car you rode in doesn't have that hp, you didn't go 200mph. Plain as that TM. BTW you know how dangerous it would be to even go 160 mph+ on a normal freeway even at 3am? Sorry but I respectfully disagree you went even 40mph close to 200mph.

Decision made
Well I got my car back from the body shop and I still love the way it rides and looks but after driving that SS I don't know if I can handle the speed differance. My first car was a 1970 Nova running the 1/4 in 11 flat and 0-60 in a little under four. I really miss the way that thing planted you in your seat. I'm sorry to say it but I think I'm going to be returning to the american muscle scene. I'll always love the max. but hey when the 275 horse max has been out for I couple of years and I can buy one used...I'll be back Most def.

Re: Decision made
FYI, I had the same thinking as you did, and that's why I gave my max to my wife and bought a Camaro SS in 98. The car was simply too poorly built. There were noises from everywhere, and I had to send the car back to the dealership on three occasions to have the clutch checked out. Final diagnosis: "ummm... it's normal to have those noises..."
Two months after that, I had to get rid of it at a $5k loss. Basically, the minute the car is off the dealer's lot, you lost 3 grand already. I am sure you know that.
Now, I got my max back, and my wife also has a max.
I know the new Vettes have improved a great deal in their quality in the past couple generations; I hope the Camaro did too. Best luck to you.
