A laugh before bed ...

So, I'm coming home from this wedding tonight and a few miles before getting home we hit a notoriously long stop light next to a GMC Jimmy. These guys are cracking me up revving the engine and s.hit, laughing to each other, what have you. So, I look over and the wife is half asleep so I decide I'm going to have some fun.

Light changes green, they're mashin' the gas, I stab the throttle and let off (they gain a hair), stab and let off again (they get 0.5-1 carlength) then just go WOT through 1st and second. At the top of first is when I was nose to nose with him and once I chirped into second gear, he was history, no big surprise there. Here's the laugh ... I shift straight into 5th from second at about 60mph (didn't feel like getting pulled over on the account of a Jimmy) - dood drives by and his buddy is hanging out the window going "we had you in 1st man ...".

So, I gave him a thumbs up and said sarcastically, "you sure did". I don't think he got the sarcasm. So, if a Jimmy pulls up next to you in Tampa and starts revving up - yes, he REALLY thinks he can beat you in 1st gear.

I had a similar experience with an Excursion, They mash the gas, I pass them quick then let off end of 2nd only to find that they are still jamming on the gas and they pass me waving. lol

Passengers were prolly wasted like my friends in the Tahoe tonight, SC inwhich we wasted tons of cars.

Man, I love my Max, but if I had the money....a modded vortech SUV is such fun.

heh, reminds me of the time an old jeep cherokee was floored on the brink of his speed governor trying to keep up with me on the parkway last month.

I just kept at ~75mph and accelerated to ~85 or so, just enough to pass him again every time he caught up to me... funny stuff.

i find it hilarious when people in SUV's try to race me, 90% of the time i'm laughing too hard to notice the light turn green. i won't race unless i think it'll be close, ie another max, an accord, a 3 series bimmer, etc etc, cause i don't feel like wasting gas or risking tickets, accidents, etc. only occasionally if someone is really acting dumb and needs to be put in their place

i'm lucky cause my girlfriend actually likes when i drive fast or race.

I don't know what kind of mods you have, but I can pretty much guarantee a victory against 99% of the Grand Cherokee's on the road. I agree with the point that you're making that there are trucks that perform well and are relative sleepers, but beat a 4th gen max with even light mods? Not likely.
