5th gen muffler

Man I hate that, when the server is busy and it posts a blank thread. I am sorry for that, here is my real thread.

I am going to buy a b-pipe and a 5th gen muffler for my Maxima. I have a couple of questions:

Where can I find a 5th gen muffler? I have been looking for one but I just can't seem to find one. Also, what price can I expect for the 5th gen muffler?

Is the b-pipe worth the money? I mean, I know it will only give me a couple of horses, but I can't figure out whether I should skip the b-pipe all together and just get other mods (save $200 for other mods)? I wanted to go hacked stock airbox, y-pipe, b-pipe, and muffler. I am definately getting a y-pipe and a 5th gen muffler.

Expect to pay $100-$150 for a 5th gen muffler. Watch the F/S forums. They pop up in there from time to time.

As far as the B-pipe goes, I'd say go ahead and get it. The '97-'99 models have a nasty pinch in the stock pipe right after the resonator. Don't know just how much it affects performance but you might as well get it all done at one time.

Thank you for the info.
I agree, I might as well get the b-pipe.
I have another question.
Does anyone know of any other mufflers that are quiet and are not huge in diameter. I just want something like maybe a 2.5" diameter tip.

I would get the b pipe. The OEM b-pipe has a major restiction just behind the resonator so an after market one will make a difference probably more than an muffler itself (aftermarket or 5th gen). When I got a B pipe(with resonator) from budget it was a larger 2.5" dia(better flow) and got my 5th gen muffler cut to fit at a muffler shop. Very quiet setup at idle and at crusing speeds (3000rpm- highway) but has a nice growl at WOT.If you want a quiet muffler you should get a resonator. Without one I guess the tone is pretty raspy.

Wait, is the 5th gen muffler a single tip muffler, or does it have two tips to it?
I just want a single tip muffler that is not loud.

5th gen muffler has dual tips, and it's pretty quiet. I'd recommend getting a 5th gen muffler from another .org member, then go to a local muffler shop and have them bend you a 2.5" b-pipe. It shouldn't cost more than $150.

From my understanding, thet 5th gen muffler is a lil too long so it has to be cut, and then a new flange needs to be welded on..

What? the b pipe is the least restrictive part of the exhaust system. A muffler doesn't make a difference performance wise...

I think I get more gains from an after market b - pipe than my 5th gen muffler. The oem b pipe is much more restrictive than an aftermarket one. The 5th gen muffler is said to give only 1 - 2 horsepower versus the 4th gen muffler. Just my opinion.

What is the max hp you can get from the muffler alone? Would it be almost as quiet as stock?

Does anyone know the length of a stock 4th gen b-pipe and the length of a stock 4th gen muffler?
