Headlight replacement and Remote Control

I had a headlamp explode inside the headlight. Now I get reduced light from that headlight due to the loss of reflection inside the glass.

I would like to either remove the headlight (not the headlamp-the entire glass assembly) or replace it. I looked in the FAQs and either I am as blind as my spouse thinks I am, or it is not there. I found how to replace the lamp, but not the entire glass light.

Also, we lost a set of keys, complete with the ignition and remote. Other than going to this rip off dealer in my town, any idea where I can get another one? He wants to nail us $90 for the key and $160 for the remote.

Thanks for the help,

Torvan

You can get a remote off ebay cheap and reprogram it to your car. The key for your car is chipped for the security system. You need to get that from your dealer and have the key and your cars ECU reporgrammed. The key goes for around 50 bucks and the service charge to reprogram it is going to run around 65.

To clean your headlight, remove it from the car and wash it out with soap and water. Fill it with soapy water via the bulb hole and swish it around. You can also put a small piece of paper towel inside the light assembly to aid in cleaning inside. Drain it out and rinse it good with warm water. You can put some dry paper towel in the headlight assembly and shake it arond to soak up some of the water. Then let the light dry out really good for about a day in the sun.

if i read you correctly, you said that the bulb messed up the headlight glass?

just do like nj says, or do the old "nothing sez luvin' like baking headlights in the oven" routine. That way you can give the inside a real good scrubbing and if you really wanted to, do the AE mod to your lights, if you dont have that already.

As far as the key, nj has that all layed out for you. if the mechanic is saying $90 for the key, ask if that includes programming. If so, take it.

remotes are dime for the dozen on EBAY. You can even buy 2 for $20.00 or buy one for $2.00 . Just have to look around.

as for the reprogramming link.....i need to find it anyway, so if i do, i will post it back in here.

Thanks so much njmaxseltd on the how to clean instructions. I am a neophyte though on how to remove the headlight from the car itself. The car is not modded at all-because I am that neophyte and it is the only car I have.

I know-get a Chiltons-but I was hoping for a step by step style of instructions. I build computers and create circuit boards for them for a living, so I am not a total idiot, but have never took my car apart outside of basic maintenance; but I can follow instructions. Can you point me in a direction for those step by step style instructions without going to a Chiltons? I promise I will buy one soon-going to the mechanic for the "recommended maintenance" gets expensive.

Thanks also to LastBoyScout on the reprogramming link for the remote. I am going to Ebay now for the remote and will get the key from the dealer and pay his $90 for the key and $92.50 for the reprogramming-as much as it pains me to do that. Part of the price for living in a small town I suppose.

Thanks both of you!
