keyless entry question
keyless entry question
i just got my gxe a couple months ago and i was wondering if its possible that i could have keyless entry already, even though i dont have a remote. obviously, the remote could have been lost somewhere along the way. does anyone know how to tell? or does it even matter? i mean, do i automatically have it? or at least it is inherently in all the maximas from the factory, you just dont know about it on the gxe? maybe all i have to do is get a remote and program it?
I believe that not all GXE's are created equal. I think the only way your would have been remote ready iss if it came with the comfort and convenience package. if you had that I think all you would need is a remote that you could pick up for 25 dollars on ebay....however, i dont know my gxe packages to be able to tell you what to look for, someone needs to help me on that.
first question would be this.
do you have a security light next to the steering wheel?
if so that is good. if not, then no you dont.
way to test if it is funtional is to do as follows:
sit in your car in either the back seats, or the passenger seat.
lock the doors from the drivers side. Count to sit there for one minute. then open the door. The horn should honk, and the lights should flash.

If your car is a 5 speed ,may not come with it. I had a 99 Gxe 5 sp and didn t come with it. Check inside the trunk on passanger side wall : If the car is equipped with keyless, there is the remote entry module (maybe 4 in. box) that has total of 3 connectors gettin into it. If all you have is the wiring ,the news for you are bad. I tried to install remote entry module in my 99 gxe,and the car is not completly wired for it, so I had to stop the project. Also,if you trunk is power ( release is located on driver side door) I think that you r ok. If the trunk release is manual ( located on the floor) ,bad news.
if you car is equipped with the remote ,you can get the fob,and program it quite easy. If not equipped, get used to use your key to unlock it. Good luck
