Serious problems with car? Lost to a 93 EX Accord

Something has to be wrong with my car! It's stock 1998 and me and my friend were toying around in his 93 Accord EX. We both floored it at the same time and he was already ahead.

However, my automatic lags when I floor it and it takes 1-2 seconds for it to actually kick in, but by this time he is already gone. I was running on no gas , it was hanging past the e. I didn't go past 60-70 because I didn't want to get a ticket but still I should of had 1-3 car lengths on him!
My car feels faster when I hit the gas hard rather that flooring it.

Any advice on what could be the problem or does this sound right? Two automatics going from a roll to 60-70 and my lag 1-2 seconds brings it on par with his 0-60 times.

does he have a v-6 or a 4 cyl? either way, he would be able to hang with ur auto because u run about 7.3-7.7 0-60 and those accords can do that to, they're decently quick for the year and engines

what mods do u guys have if any
