History check/recall question
History check/recall question
Is there anywhere a car owner can go to get the most updated info on his/her vehicle without getting fleeced for a fee? I need to know whether the alternator recall for 97 and 98 Maximas applies to my car or if it has been taken care of by the previous owner. This kind of info should be free for consumers as well as dealerships, in my opinion. Any ideas? I know carfax can supply most info, but it costs.
www.alldata.com. I found out I had a recall on EVAP crap on the site, took my car to the stealership, and I'm getting it all fixed for free.
I went to the stealership today to ask about my starter. They said that there was a recall on starters but then corrected the mistake with the recall on alternators. Nissan made about 4 or 5 different kinds of alternators and color coded all of them. I don't know what the colors are exactly but the dealership told me that if your alternator has a silver tag or sticker on it, that is the defective one. Take it to them and they will replace it without a fee.
