So I really think I have a VLSD. I bought the car in Alaska but I think it was originally a Canadian car. How can I tell without having to research a lot if I truely do have a VLSD?! When I butter up the pavement I leave two launch marks/burnstrips. Is this a precursor to VLSD or does this occur to the open diff Maximas also?

I dunno if this works with our maxis but on older muscle cars jack it up and put it in Nuetral and spin one tire and look at what the other does. I leave 2 launch marks also, so that not a direct indication.

all maximas, even without VLSD usually leave 2 strips. I just left 2 behind today in my auto, new KS is really working. But to be sure I think you have to decode your VIN or one of the tags on the firewall. Search I know it's somewhere, maybe the FAQ...
Look on your firewall for a silver metal plate with numbers punched on it (located on passenger side). This plate contains your tranny code, interior code, etc. Look at the one that says trans. code and if it reads RS5F50V then you have a VLSD, otherwise it will read RS5F50A. Those codes are for manual transmissions, not sure about the auto code (RE4 sumthin). At the end, tho, you will notice either an A (open diff) or a V (VLSD) respectively.
