Cold Hard Start

Hello all, my first post...

my 98 se auto max. is cutting off when first start up in the morning. this is my first cold season with this car. i did a search and for far, i did:
1. checked the battery and alt.
2. replaced fuel filter
3. replaced plugs

so the first start ( usually in the morning ) once the car is cold, its cranks and starts, then in 1-2 seconds justs dies, rev. just goes down and the car cuts off.

any ideas ?

thanks

I have the same problem and am browsing the forum here for ideas. Sorry, I can't offer any suggestions, at least, not at this time.

okay guys. when was the last time you did an oil change????

you probably need to. Go and get some Castrol GTX 5w30. Since it is 5 weight, it is thinner and can get to the smaller parts of you car easier. This is helpful in the wintertime since cars will stall when they are not properly lubricated.

try that and then see what happens.

Same problem here. Happened today at like 5:40 PM in Jersey when I left work. After starting, pressed gas pedal to rev engine slightly to keep from stalling then everything was okay. Only happens when its gets really cold....

I also have a 98 SE auto and have this problem sometimes in the winter. I sometime park in my driveway which is a little slanted, I wonder if that contributes to the problem at all. Maybe it's something the 98 SEs has??

check also the following:

1. clean air filter
2. clean throttle body
3. clean IAC valve
4. replace oil filter + oil every 3,000k, peferably sythetic oil with OEM nissan oil filter. if you live in cold area use 0W-30, if you live in hot area use 10W-30. in between use 5W-30.
5. check spark plugs
6. reset your ECU after all that.

I had this problem before. After a while check engine light came on ocassionally. Scanned it, it was the coolant sensor. The car doesn't have this problem anymore since I've replaced the coolant sensor.

cold start

I also have a 98SE auto and i have problems starting in the morning. My belt seems to make a chirp when turning over and then the revs fluctuate before idleing consistently. it is weird?
