Having a Hard time Starting (grinding noise)

I have a 96 Maxima with 75k miles. When I try to start the car, I hear a grinding noise and the car doesnt start. After a few tries, it starts (sometimes a couple sometimes a lot). I know its not the battery because all lights are on (windows work etc). One thing I did notice though... when I try to start the light inside the car DIMS as its trying to grind (I guess start) and then brightens as soon as i stop. I also tried to jump the car just to make sure its not the battery, same problem.

Thanks,

GTKeeper

I had the same problem.
Mine was starter and I replaced it today.

Haynes manual says that you should try to start for more then 15 sec, and let it cool down between each try, otherwise you may burn your starter, like I did yesterday.

Also try this, might be useful if you can do it
