motor mounts are the main focus on wheel hop. if you get better ones, then your wheel hop will improve dramaticly. no idea of cost of instalation... my buddy did it himself. hope this helped alittle.

Every car has motor mounts so theres no problems....if you get solid mounts then you may have issues with a rough idle. Wheel hop happens when the mounts have too much give in them...usually meaning theyre old and worn. Our cars have 4, tranny mount, side mount, and 2 mounts on the crossmember. www.jerryromenissan.com has all of these and you also get a 25% discount

they made the car comfortable. solid motormounts would vibrate the entire car, but yes there would be little wheel hop. try looking up ES motor mount inserts.

the motor mounts that eliminate wheelhop but cause a vibration in your car are made of polyurethane....

if you want a medium go with homemade motormounts....which means filling your stock mounts with the polyurethane....its supposed to be a good way to reduce wheelhop and not have the vibration throughout your car...

you can search for it on the internet....there are tons of people that have how tos for homemade mounts.

I was experiencing the same problem with my car, I have a 5spd and was practicing my launches in the back of my church parking lot, ( sounds stupid I know) but I repeatedly got wheel hop when launching. After I lowered my car and install a front strut tower brace, I have only experienced it maybe 3 or 4 times. And that is usually when the streets have been somewhat damp or wet. If you havent tried those mods, custom maxima has a FSTB for 70 bucks, I had some install problems but got it in there eventually with no problem, they that bro!

Wheelhop = very bad...... it causes really bad stress on your tranny and axles. And leads to premature failure.... I'd recommend filling them in with Polyurethane like luckee2bhere said. Its the cheapest although probably most time consuming between taking them out and filling them and letting the mounts dry. But they wont be as rough as the Place Racing ones.

I had such bad wheel hop after installing a supercharger that even some homemade polyurethane filled mounts weren't helping all that much. So I took the front mount and filled it with marine fiberglass epoxy (West system, sold at boating supply stores), which is harder than polyurethane. It just about completely eliminated wheel hop.The rear mount I left with the polyurethane. The tradeoff is more vibration at idle, but I'm very happy to make that trade. As somebody else pointed out, wheel hop will eventually kill your tranny and drivetrain.

act, exedy stage 1, etc. will cause heavy wheel hop.

I had massive wheel hop when i had my act and i get a lot with my new exedy stage 1 clutch too. i guess now that all power is there with no slipping, causes crazy wheel hop. Any pics or how to's on these home made engine mounts?

For those with high performance clutches, I wonder if adding an LSD will alleviate the wheel hop since power will be distributed to both axles instead of torquing only one axle.

I get the wheel hop but only when I drive the car without letting the engine warm up a bit. The wheel hops even when I try to launch slowly, trying to let off the clutch slowly and smoothly. Any ideas or suggestions?

Welll when it happens, the front of the car feels like its hopping. Not sure if I know what a clutch chatter is...is it a bad sign?

That's clutch chatter guy. You can't wheelhop unless your tires are spinning, and you can't spin the tires when you are just launching in a normal fashion.

Ditto.
With my old Kumho touring tires, wheel hop was BAD.
With my new Potenza RE950s, I haven't had wheel hop problems.
In order for the wheel hop to occur, the tires have to slip first. If the tires are sticky and don't lose traction, wheel hop doesn't have a chance to occur.
Get some stickier performance tires.

I also noticed a decrease in wheel hop when I installed my FSTB. It could just be in my head idk.

Ok, when I peel off and the tire burns rubber, I get wheel hops for sure. Now launching from a dead stop as described above, I feel the same thing I felt when I burn rubber. Weird!

Ok....so wheelhop is bad for tranny etc...are these harsher mounts going to fix that, or make it worse? I know there would be less vibration, but maybe more stress somewhere else? Or is it all contained in the mounts?

I got an estimate today for engine + tranny mounts: $135 for engine, around $60 for tranny. How does that sound?

I know we can get mounts for the engine, are they also available for the tranny? BTW, I have VLSD, and I get crazy wheelhop. I can't imagine it being any worse. What does it feel like to not really have your wheels hop? Much smoother? Seems like an idea as to possibly lowering ET's in drag if wheel hop is a problem.....
