steering wheel shaking

ive noticed the problem yesterday when i was driving, basically i think it may be time for an alignment and tire rotation, doesnt shake at high speed, only when i speed up to 30 and goes away, anyone know what the problem is?

I have that too on my 98 with 85k, for about a year now. Used to be only around 50-55, now it's like 40 and up, less apparent at 75. That's why it's a joy to drive rental cars, even if it's a Cavalier. I did the wheel balance thing and alignment, it did not go away. Thought somebody said tie rod end, not really sure, I'm not willing to drop bucks on the front suspension. If it needed a CV or axle, sure. Good luck and post the cure if you fix it.

yeah that sounds like a tie rod issue. Its not hard to replace. but if you had a balance and alignment done, then you might want to check that out. Also check tire pressure and tire wear.

I actually was looking at it today because I was rotating the tires. I can't see any clear signs of wear--the bushings do seem brittle, but the one which is most that way is for the stabilizer bar. Any physical sign of a tie rod needing replacement? Thx.

what i do know is that my front 2 tires are worn down big time, so im assuming thats prob the issue and i need to get an alignment and rotation for the winter, i filled up some more steering fluid, so who knows, ill buy 2 new tires for the front and see how that goes and maybe it will correct the issue...
