I installed my white face gauges a couple of days ago and the needles twitch up and down. I took it apart and found that the middle part is touching the face. I tried double sided tape, with and without it and it's worse without the tape. I dunno if wat i just said was clear but basically the needles are touching the face and it doesn't move....help me~! I dunno wat to do...I'd really appreciate any suggestions. HELP~!

 

I've been there before. First, you might want to try 3M adhesive spray instead of double sided tape. It holds better. Next, to keep the needles from sticking, sand the bottom of the black dials down. That way, the rounded bottoms of the dials won't be pressing against the guages since they will be elevated. Trust me. This works. Before, I tried everything, and I kept tinkering with my guages frequently. I saw a post on here about sanding down the dials, and my needles haven't stuck since. Hope this helps. By the way, you don't have to take off the black dials to sand them. Just use a small peice of sand paper and rub it on the bottom surface of the dial. There's enough space between the dial and gauge to do this.

 

well...there's another problem that i didn't mention earlier. in the hole of the white face, i kinda bent it when i put it in through the needle, cuz of the black thing that sticks out, at the other end of the needle, was in the way, and i just kinda shoved it in. so now there's like these two spikes sticking up that catches the needle's other end as it moves, but maybe i can sand that down too? and the 3M adhesive spray, wat is this? is it like glue that sprays? and couldn't i just cut off the edges of the black faces, instead of sanding them? maybe i'm not too sure of which part ur talking about. But thanx for the help...i'll try it sometime during the week.

 

I'm not too sure what "two spikes" you're talking about. Do you mean the ones at the very bottom of the gauge itself below the rpm or unleaded fuel lettering? The 3M adhesice spray is a type of spray glue in a can; you can get it from any office supply store or walmart. It's not as permanent as super glue so that you can reposition the guages if you mess up. The part that I was talking about sanding down is the bottom of the black dial that sits at the center of the guage (the one with the needle sticking out of it). yeah i used those instructions. oh so ur talking about the dials as in, the center part that's attached to the needle rite? that's a great idea but how would u sand it down, dettach the dial and start sanding or sand the bottom of it while it's on the gauge? and how do dettach the dial, just yank it out? i'm sorry i know these are stupid questions and i'm asking too many of them but please be patient...i appreciate every word ur saying...thank you.

 

Yes. That's what I'm talking about. You wouldn't need to detach the dial. What I did was take a peice of sand paper and slipped it between the dial and the gauge. If you pull up the dial a little, you will have enough gap to sand the edges of the dial. It's the edges of that black round dial that is causing the needles to stick. I just tiltled the dial up toward me and moved slip of sand paper back and forth until I felt it was enough. The sand paper I had was only rough on one side, but still be careful not to accidently sand part of your new indiglos. I know you won't, but it's just as heads up. Once you sand them down a bit, there will be a bigger gap between the face of the guages and the outer edges of the black dial. The end result is that your needles won't stick anymore since the dials that they are attached to won't be rubbing against the gauges anymore. Feel free to ask away.

you can actually take off the black dials if I'm not mistaken. Just pull and kinda twist at the same time. should come right off.

do you have to do this to all of the dials? or just the speedometer and tachometer?

 

i had to do it for all of em...for a couple of days i really didn't know how much gas i had but i had a feeling that i needed gas and after i filled up, it came out to 29 bux which means the gas was pretty low.
