Spongy brakes after Goodridge line upgrade....Any ideas???

My girlfriend and I recently performed the Goodridge SS brake line upgrade on my max. The problem is my brakes are still spongy. I measured my freeplay and it is way over spec. I adjusted the freeplay and it felt a little tighter but that only lasted a day or two. Could it be the master cylinder? I am puzzled. I appreciate any feedback from the org.

Then it might be the master cylinder needs rebuilding or replacing.

Are you saying that they feel the same way they did before you changed to the SS lines? Did you change because they were spongy thinking the SS lines would make it better?

My guess to your problem.
1- you might not tighten things up enough and there is a leak some where ?
2- how did you bleed the system ?
did you put a block of wood under the brake pedal to prevent the pedal from
going all the way to the floor ?
Depending on the condition of the brake MC at the time, piston seal might
be damaged when pedal traveled all the way to the floor during bleeding.

Thanks for the reply techie....yes they feel the same as before I switched to the SS lines. And to answer your other question, yes that is one of the reasons I installed the SS lines b/c the brakes were so spongy. So you think it has something to do with the master cyclinder? If thats the problem I dont mind replacing it. I am just tired of these spongy brakes

I just installed mine last saturday , brakes feel great now ( OEM pads, Brembo blanks , SS lines )
there is noticable firmness in brake pedal , plus cars stops great now. I used Speedbleeders to bleed and flush the system and I DID NOT follow the bleeding order LR FL etc.

my suggestion is order some speedbleeders - they are great - I can't even imagne using vaccum pump to bleed brakes again.

also by any chance you didn't let the master cylinder drain all out ?
if yes - there could be the problem
You'll need to bench bleed the MC.

Nick.

Thanks for the insight Nick....I am going to check with the person who helped me bleed them, maybe thats the problem. I am pretty sure I did not let the brake fluid get down too low but its worth a shot. Anything to get some firmness back in the pedal

If they felt spongy BEFORE you bleed them, then it's probably a worn master cylinder.
