Taking padding under the hood out

I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to take the padding under the hood out? I would imagine the intake would scream a lot loder because of it echoing under there. Possibly let the engine run cooler too?

Your thoughts please.

I'd be worried about the heat doing damage to the paint.

I would think that the hood would get EXTEREMELY hot and would cause a serious burn.

I have done this and it does nothing. Been driving with it like this for 2500m. It does make it slightly louder, slightly cooler and slightly lighter. Lots of slightlys because the d@mn thing weighs 1.3Ibs. and has less heat stopping qualities than your sheets.

Isn't the material also fire retardent as well? It may not be wise to remove it.

yea, it can transmit heat a lot more to the hood, and therefore the paint. I know some people don't have issues, but i think it could be a problem...whats the benefit from taking it off anyway?

mine has a few rips in it, don't know how they got there. i wonder if there's a good way to repair it or how much they cost for new ones? i might just try to super glue it now that i think about it. sounds ghetto but should do the trick i hope.

anyone else have the ripping issue?

only way i could imagine you would get rips is a high strut bar, or something under your hood. Its not a generally wide spread problem. duct tape would work

well i have a slight mark on it from the front strut bar but the rips i was talking about are more towards the front of the hood. maybe a shop or the previous owner damaged it when doing maintenance or something

either someone messed it up while the hood was open, or you hit some major gravel, the spewed up....to the top of your engine compartment

there was a big disscusion on this a while back, it does lower the engine temp, but if ur engine ever caught on fire, that would not be htere to protect the engine.

when something catches fire, under the hood, the little plastic caps melt and the padding falls to put hte fire out.

Same, took mine out, less sound baffling, but it does get rid of the insulating effect that it has, and utilizes the inherent heat dissipation qualities of metal. Also, warm paint isn't bad at all...ask anyone who rolls their fenders, they need to heat the paint up before they roll, otherwise it cracks. It does absolutely nothign to it, and even if you feel the top of the hood after driving for a long time, really hard, your hood won't feel hot at all.

The rips you speak of cound be your engine rocking. I've heard of a few incidents were when someone punched it, the engine lurched and hit the roof....once it dented the roof on my friends car

I can't understand what you said, but... some cars come with out that **** and nothing happens to the paint. Plus from what I've heard that **** doesn't really work, it just makes it worse incase of the fire. It just melts and ignites too! I don't really know if I have on my maxima, I got bad memory

Very Very stupid idea IMO.

BTW, that 118 ft "burn-out" in your sig looks extremely fake...like say driving-over-a-pothole type "burn-out"

Not sure what you mean "driving-over-a-pothole type "burn-out""???
I am not forcing you to beleive that I didn't do that burnout. Beleive what you want. It looks real to me. It's not that hard to do huge burnouts with the amount of torque the Max has. Maybe you just need a lesson in driving the stick.

You're not too far away in Chicago. Come to Duluth, go to the lot, see the marks. That easy!

I said it looks fake, that's all. Don't get too excited now u freakin scout, the only person here who needs a lesson in driving a stick is you Pee Wee. I would totally own u when it comes to driving, now talk about driving a stick...you would be destroyed. Just for your information, I've gone through 3 5-spd cars since 15 and I'm 22 now u noob. That is also well over 200k miles to approximate.

...Now look at my plate and SIT DOWN!

Oh no! You're gonna own me at driving a stick! Whoopity Doo! We'll probably never even meet each other. You most likely are better at driving than I am. I was just defending the authenticity of my picture. I assumed you didnt know much about sticks since for some reason you don't believe the Maxima can do big burnouts. And don't even talk about NOOB. Look at yourself. We're both relatively new here. And my dad has probably gone through 20 5-speed cars since he was 15. Whats your point? That would mean he is at least 5X better than you right? And I am sitting down. Who stands at a computer?

Isaac: Execellent. I miss the Maxima. It is still in storage for 6 more months.

That's right, bow to the BOSS.

...and remember, being a noob on maxima.org or any automotive forum for that matter HAS NOTHING to do with you or me knowing more or less than people with say 4k posts. Now that would be very "noobish" thinking if anything.

However, I will admit that being a noob has a lot to do with how you interpret other people's comments. That's where you come in. First, I simply stated that taking padding from under the hood is stupid I M O ---> In My Opinion. Then, I simply stated that the "burn-out" looks fake, like say you going over a pothole hence making the tire marks. I never said the burn-out IS fake. I believe that the burn-out happened because just about anybody who drives a stick Max for say a week could do it!

My point? - pay more attention to what u read in posts

That's analogous to saying that what magicians do "looks extremely real" when we all know that it's FAKE!!!!!

Jeff, you are the most annoying person I have ever come in contact with on the internet. You bud into everyone's business. Sorry to break this to you, but it's the truth. You need an explanation for everything, yet you are incapable of grasping anything. I noticed that here on the org people always TRY to get through to you with no success...like with a child.

Ah no. Let me break it down to YOU.

You saw the burnout and you thought to yourself. That is fake! I'm calling him out! So you do so. Fine.

BUT. You didn't think he would actually have proof of himself actually DOING the burnout.

But he did and you got

What's more simple than that?

What's complicated is your attempts to weasel out of being owned when it's clear you got owned. Just own up to it and move on.

BTW this is YOUR first post into this thread. You chimed in with your monster reply to tell the guy, his idea is "stupid" and to accuse him that his burnout was "fake".

Who's budding into who's posts???

I don't know of low enough words to describe your pathetic viewpoints and idiotic comments. You really need to grow up. How do you know what I actually thought? Can you read my mind or something? I mean, seriously, do have any friends? How do you go about in this world?

And about the burnout, plz. Like I said, anyone can do it. The burnout looks extremely fake and I know some people would agree with me. I had no doubt from the very beginning about it being real. If anything, what I said about the burn-out should be taken as a complement because that implies that it is phenomenal. It's like say when playing an arcade game you beat 100 ppl in a row and have them say you cheated, when in reality you did not. That's also a complement because they think you could only be this good by cheating.

In the end, just go away Jeff and stop budding in...would ya?

That's what the post is for you nag, for me and others to state our opinions. And yes, that includes stating my opinion on both the actual post and a sig that's new to me. Never once did I bash him, accuse him, or abuse him. You are just very retarded for thinking so. Sorry, you are the only one here who deserves to be bashed. Jesus, grow up.

You know you're right!?! When people tell me my ideas are stupid and my pictures are fake, I feel really good! haha.

Now lets grow up and act our ages shall we?
Boss, you had a legitimate accusation in saying that could be fake
billy backed himself with a picture of him doing the aforementioned burnout...
jeff, from a 3rd perspective, noted this previously and then had to defend himself from Boss' false accusational, internet induced rage, and did so flawlessly. Dont get me wrong boss, im not bashing you at all, but calm down dude, its the internet...We all know you are probably great at driving a stick, and whatnot, but is this really enough to get all worked up over?

Not that hard to understand! hehe

Have a good Thanksgiving all.

Boss, try not to contradict yourself so much in the future. Might be easier for the rest of us to know what you are "thinking".
