2 Accidents that could have been prevented if i had ABS....so i need ABS!
The past 2 accidents i've been in, my tires slipped and brakes locked, therefore i'm nearing the conclusion that I need ABS. Anyone know where I can get ABS, i'm in a 98 GXE that little did I know did not have any. Also what am I looking at in terms of cost. Thanks
Almost no accidents can be prevented if you had ABS. What can prevent it is a better driver. I'm assuming that you mean your accidents occurred in snowy/slippery conditions since i see that you're from MTL Quebec. If it's anything like Ottawa no ABS in the world can prevent you from getting into an accident unless it was a really light accident, what can help you is proper tires and knowledge. It's always funny watching people do the speed limit the day after ice storms. I had to cross a busy interesection every day on my way to school and have seen numerous people, with or without ABS that couldn't stop in time for the lights. Luckily there was brains on one side of the equation, i waited until the front rows of cars stopped before crossing, or else wouldn't be here today.
Point is: Better tires, knowledge and SLOWING down in slippery conditions can prevent accidents, ABS hardly can

slowing down and increasing following distance are the best things you can do to avoid accidents in slippery weather.
If your tires are licking up on dry pavement, getting softer, stickier tires would be far cheaper than adding ABS.

I have a 99 Maxima without ABS and so far have handled the brakin fairly well. If you are lockin up the brakes, its because you're pressing down too hard. You have to pump the brake pedal and not just think that like Gran Turismo 3, if you mash the circle button, you're going to stop quicker. All it does is lock up the brakes. Not to sound silly or anything, but try practice braking when there are few cars around and test out what i told you. From experience, in moments of sudden panic, I have locked up the brakes, so its not something you pick up overnight. We all know ABS is better, but you'll see that you could live without it if you had too.
