cruise control buttons(just my opinion)

i think it would have been cool if they set it up so that at night, when the lights are on, when you turn on the cruise control with the dash switch, the steering wheel control buttons would light up. i know its not hard to remember what does what, i just think it would have been a cool feature. just my $.02

BTW, i love my maxima. just thought i would share that.

I wish i could at least see the button that turns the cruise control on and off in the first place so i dont have to play 'wheres that darn button' everytime i want to turn it on.

But yea, if it lit up that would be real cool.

While on this subject, is there anyway to make the cruise control button on the dash stay ON all the time. One less step to turn on the cruise. I know I'm a lazy POS.

Thanks.

DOOD, you are the man, that's awesome. Had no idea this was that simple. I'll try it this weekend.

BTW: this site rocks, maybe I need to donate.

Ok, one quick question on the cruise control mod. I have a 96' I30 and the ASCD relay is in a different place than in the pic. On mine, it's located in the front right side of the car (standing in front of the car). I took the relay off and it has 4 pins going horizontally and 2 vertically. Do I connect the 2 pins? (I'm assuming I do) In the directions, it said the relay had only 3 pins going opposite.

Just being cautious, don't want to fry anything. Thanks again!

In my '99 i30 you connect the four horizontal pins together (I believe one set turns on the light on the dash and the other two turn on the actual cruise control.

The vertical ones should NOT be connected as this will short something

Considering that the 4th gen was launched in 1994, not much thought was put in to illuminated steering wheel switches.

More and more manufacturers are starting to do it now.

My 0.02, and yes, I agree with you, it would have been cool

Thanks for your help, by the way. So do you make two connectors and simply run them parallel to each other? If so, this is considerably different than what was posted in the link 97blackSE sent.

Thanks again for anyone's help.

Correct, you will need two different wires to connect them.... this was posted somewhere in the forum, but am not sure where it was. The i30's seem to use a different relay than the maxima's (not sure why) but I believe ours is brown and theirs is blue. I would take a picture, but at the moment my car is a few hundred miles away Hope this helps,

Jake

Jake,

Yeah, my relay is brown so it sounds like we're on the same page. I'll give it a shot, hope I don't catch the engine on fire.....ha Thanks for your help man!

Ceaser, Yes this can be done. Someone has done it but not sure who. A little searching a question asking in the Nitrous forum may be in order to find out.

Why do you have to turn on the dash switch first before you can set the cruise?
Why could'nt they just make it so you just push the SET button when you are going the speed you want? Thats the way it was on my last car(86 Monte Carlo). Just a thought.

Read earlier in this post, I asked the same question and found out all you have to do is jump out the ASCD relay and you no longer have to push the cruise button on the dash to turn it on. YEE HAA. Only took like 10 minutes to do also.
