Removing a tint.

How do I go about doing this? It may not be necessary, you tell me. The tint that is on the car now (when I got it) is not very dark and I want a dark @ss tint. I am assuming I have to remove the current tint, so how do I go about doing this?

How about this...don't F**K it up by doing it yourself, either removing or adding new. Tint is a pain, and it looks like hell when done wrong. honestly, that is another thing that you should have done for you, just like the suspension, unless you know someone that can do it for you for free.

WalMart's are far from where I live. Not one close to the Los Angeles/Malibu area.

brillo? oil? wtf are you guys talking about?!?

#1 thing to use to remove window tint....ammonia.

yes it stinks like he11...but it removes the tint.

back glass
find a warm/sunny day. get a few garbage bags (black). lay it on the rear deck to protect the carpet/speakers. get good quality masking tape and tape over the roof liner.

put that ammonia in a spray bottle. wear eye protection and gloves. a respirator/face mask helps too.

spray the ammonia directly on the tint. spray a lot. once the entire tint is covered in ammonia then lay the garbage bag on the tint w/ the ammonia mixture. the bag is there to slow down evporation. at no time the tint should be dry. let the glass bake in the sun for 30-40 min. check the glass to make sure it's wet every 10-15 min. once it's done baking get back in the car w/ your spray bottle. pick a corner of the tint and SLOWLY pull the tint off. the goal is to pull the tint and the glue all in 1 piece. if you see a dry spot or feel resistance then spray more ammonia on the glass.

ok once all the tint is off the back window get a WHITE scrubbing pad (not green or any other color) and spray down the glass w/ ammonia and scrub w/ the scrubbing pad. get some good window cleaner (not windex) and follow it up w/ lint free towels. AT NO TIME SHOULD ANYTHING METAL HIT THE REAR GLASS W/ DEFROSTER LINES. That includes brillo.

for the side glass get a razor blade. pref stainess steel. use soapy water (dish washing soap mixed w/ water in a spray bottle)...spray the glass down. get one edge of the tint and pull it off. if there's glue left behind spray the soapy water down and use the razor and scrape it off. DO NOT flip the blade over once it's dull. only use one side to prevent scratching.

i've also seen steam machines used to remove tint. most don't have that around the house.

if you're clueless on what to do...best to go to the tinter and have him/her do the removal.

EDIT: ammonia can be subsituted w/ tint off

then the tint is only as good as the first layer of tint.

edit...also limo tint is normally 5%. 2 layers of 5% is 2.5%? (still very dark).

they do sell black out window tint. it's jet black when it's applied. that's 0%.

That may allow problems with the window function. Too thick and the window will be slow up and down. I know someone that did that, and the first layer started coming loose, then got caught on the window track. Had to have the window removed and all the tint removed.

IMO just putting a little elbow grease to remove them is much cheap than having to let it bake in the sun or paying 190,i mean serious;y what could go wrong by trying it yourself. You wont scratch the glass(unless you are using diamond Brillo pads lol)

Most places charge $100 to remove tint. I'm getting mine retinted, should be around $250-$300 total. Most all places offer a lifetime warranty against fading, bubbles etc. Can't beat that.

lol im down if i get dirt cheap price. im sure this guy can give us discount cuz i could tell when i saw him in person, he is a cool man. i already got tint but its 6 years old and faded. lets see what the guy says, good enough price and im down for some kick *** 20% tint.

i wonder how many cars we gotta take there to bring the price to as low as 100 . if that ever happens
