Fit 194 bulbs in 99 max, fixed my front end, new door lights.. *PICS*
Well, i have been working on my car alot this past week, and here are the newest additions. I fixed the front end of my car, previously i had a broken fog light, and a missing clear corner. i used some donor part from my other 98 max. all in all, they look good, i am rather pleased with the turn out.
i also took apart my dash, and fit 194 bulbs into my 99 max. (194 bulbs are not the right size, i had to dremel and soldier.) the gauges look very good, nice and crisp, and bright.
and i also put new bulbs in the doors, the pictures do not do them any justice. they light up the whole cabin very well with a nice bright white/blue tint. well, here are some pics:

What do you think?

do you guys want me to do a write up?
i got the bulbs off of ebay for $6.50 per pair. they look great, nice and bright, and they look like an ice blue. (my camera didn't pick up the blue.) you can use a pure white bulb if you want.
let me know about the write up, but it may take me a day or two to make it.
and no, i am not parting out my donor car!

Awesome! Looks like you have to put in 6 lights - but the mix and match is kind of cool. Anyone have suggestions for the type of bulbs - maybe Polarg Hyper Whites just to brighten. How about bulbs to give it a blue look to match the clock/climate control better?
never thought about doing 194's, I was gonna solder ultra bright LED's into my 99. Looks good, they deff. need to be brighter, I was thinking red, I may go bright white, the Red needles look good at night.
Lookin good!
Lookin good!
Thanks for all the pos. feedback guys...
so you still want me to do a write up since someone provided a link to a write up? That write up is only of the 95-97 maximas... let me know.

yea! do one for the digital 98-99 max's gauges also. Did you change a bulb for the needle? It looks a lot brighter than stock. What are the default bulbs for the dash anyway? I do have a dremel and soldering iron but would like to not go that route so looking for the oem type bulbs.
Can't get brighter bulbs for 97-99
The stock bulbs on the 97-99 are little 74 bulbs. Nobody makes a brighter than stock bulb. I tried for 2 months to find brighter ones but no go
I tried #74 LED's from superbrightleds.com but they didn't light up the entire range of the gauges. There were dark spots all over, besides the gauges were royal blue instead of super white. The leds have a very strong blue tint to them.
There are only way two ways to do this mod.
#1) As you just read, use a dremel and then solder 194's to the brass rings on the electrical filament sheet(the blue plastic sheet behind the gauges).
#2) Same as #1 but instead of soldering the bulb contacts, find some 194 bulb sockets and screw them in like OEM.
If anyone has any other ways please pot it because these are the only 2 ways I've ever heard of or seen.

OK, i will start the write up in a few... should have it done by tonight.
Would Sylvania 194's look good? Or just get polargs or some off ebay? I'm asking i'd like to do the MOD tomorrow and Kragen has Sylvania 194's for $2.19 a pair. Just woundering if i should wait to get these or just wait and order some online!!
