2000 manual transmission in a 95 maxima
I just finished the install of 2000 manual transmission in a 95 nissan maxima, since the transmission is the same it will just fit and work. the only thing that you needed to transplant is the speedo sensor, I had to be careful because the top of the sensor was plastic and I didn't want to crack it, so I used 2 screw drivers and carefully got it out and installed it in the 2000 tranny. the speedometer seems to tell me the right miles an hour, although I still wanna check w/ another car on the highway. you do not need to get 5th generation axles, the original axles work just fine.
1 day impressions, I absolutly love it, the transmission feels much tighter, not in terms of shifting but in terms of driving sensation, and I don't know how but it changed the sound that the car is making, reminding me of my friend's 98 maxima, maybe the ratios are little different
and I almost forgot, for the most part you can get a cheaper 5th gen transmission then a 4th gen transmission, so for those of you who have bearing problems this is probably the best way to go. go to www.car-part.com and you can search local and national inventory. I got the non-locking one.
good luck and feel free to contact me for any information
p.s. (put good amsoil 75/90 fluid in the transmission, it will love it, mine does, contact me if you need any)

It helps with wheel spin. It's like traction control or something...

it should, I would assume it's the same tranny, but you might need different axles, at least you need it when you install the i30 lsd transmission. I really wouldn't waste my money on that, no reason to have it for everyday driving, but that's just a side note

As for gear ratio's the 2000 and 2001 are about the same. .80 vs .795 in the 4th gen. Somebody on the .org did change to an Altima (.74) or similar 5th gear successfully. I didn't hear about it til I was already done.
