Interior Dash Re-Color

Hello,

Right now, I am 15 years old, and I am getting my Grandparents 1999 maxima in 6 months when I get my license... Wow, I get chills talking about it. These are one of my favorite sedans, luxurious, but still 190 horses to back it up. Anyhow, For the last few months I have been reading on the forum, and looking a different parts. But recently a new problem has occured for me. I have the tan leather interior ,and I like the color of the lighter tan (door panels, seats) but I HATE THE DASH COLOR! Now, I know it is totally up to me what color to paint it. But I was thinking about the lighter tan color so it would match the rest of the leather and stuff in there. I also want a carbon fiber trim kit, and gauge bezel. But could give you me opinions on this, what you think it would look like. I tried searching for this multiple times on this site/over the internet. And I looked through all 2600 maximas (the 4th gens only pretty much) on cardomain, but still haven't found anyone who has done this. If you could give me your input, it sure would help out a lot. Thanks

JDM

the light tan dash to match the seats would probably be too much. And as for the Carbon Fiber Trim, forget it, it will look like doo doo on tan interior. (IMO)

Thanks for your opinion, I'm having trouble picturing different combinations of colors. If anyone else has any suggestions please give them to me. Thanks

Agreed kingpin4. But I do agree with the kid. I have the **** brown dash and hat it also. I was thinking it would be good to do a partial interior swap. Make the brown pieces black. And jdm71488, painting it won't look to hot for more than three weeks. Unless you do a really great job it will start to crack and chip very quickly. You will be less satisfied than with the brown. What model/trim packages do you have. If its a wood dash don't cover it up with anything. Just leave it stock. It looks classy that way. Red glow works really well with that interior. Trust me, CF wood look terrible with brown. I know because I order a levoc handle in CF because wood was on backorder.

got the interior your talking about....dont paint it, it will chip (ive been advised by many shops over this)....im going to buy a black dashboard nad get creme leathers seats with black piping....the dash is 550 from courtesynissan.com....custom seats like that are going to be 650...performance and exterior are more important for me right now so i wont be doing that yet

Try going to your local junk-yard and see if they have a 1999 with the color you want. Color change on interior panels almost never lasts.. and of course doesnt come close to what OEM looks like.

I wish I was given a car like that when I was 16. Don't get an accident or ticket, otherwise the insuranse man will be starrng you down $300 (or more) a month.

Thank you all, I will look into OEM black parts. Sorry if I was a jerk about it. I am thankful I have my car, no matter what color the interior is. Yes, I will be careful when I drive. Thanks again...

I have the same color interior, and I would not paint the dash if I were you. I haven't done it, but I can only guess at how tacky it would turn out. Just doesnt seem like a good painting surface.

If you are looking for other options (as I am) you could consider leaving the dash as is, and putting on a brushed aluminum dash kit.
I found this pic on my HD and I forget who's car this is, but here is an idea of how it would look:

k man....listen to me. If you hate the tan interior so much. And you have some cash. Go for an interior swap. Like Max4Speed did his maxima. It will probably run you $700 but the end results are awesome. I would do tan - blk interior.

Find a Junk Yard and go buy a different Color. Best idea, also the cheapest and least ghetto Method. Dont even think of spraypainting the Interior.

Well after seeing the aluminum trim on the tan I started to like it more... When the time comes depending on the situation I guess I will make my decision, first will come performance, then exterior, but if I can find a black interior then I will swap. But for now, I will get the aluminum trin kit on my stock interior. Besides once I swap, I can use the aluminum on the black to make it stand out more. Thanks everyone...

I think a nice wood dash kit, probably a reddish wood would look real nice on a tan dash.
