i wish i had the money to spend just on my car just to beat a buddy's fast car...
if you don't want to go turbo route, get yourself a y pipe, mevi, ecu, and all the other goodies.
also, put bricks in his trunk to weigh him down a lil...

G35's are front wheel drive, (well the Coupe's are) and the Four doors come in a optional 4wheel drive...but its a smart 4wheel drive that only works when other wheels are spinning

The G35 coupe or sedan is not front wheel drive.

I raced the auto sedan with an Injen CAi ( my cousin) on the highway... 40mph till 120. and he couldnt even get one carlength on me, btu he was still inching up. I have flywheel, clutch, popcharger, ypipe,rt cat, catback, mevi, iridium plugs for performance. If it was teh 6MT, i would have been toast i believe. If I had an ECU + UDP, he woulda been toast, I believe.

Gotta love the G35 Coupe - that is (keeping fingers crossed) the first new car I'll ever buy... I just have to wait a year
Oh well, good thing I at least ended up with a 4th Gen to play with!
Cheers,

if you have 7 grand to drop in performace mods do this, in this order: ypipe, full exhaust(doesn't really matter what kind just sound), headers are basically useless unless you go with a header/y combo 700+ compaired to 180 for just the y. then get a turbo and everything that goes with it(probably 5k or more installed), test/dyno and tunning, a light weight flywheel(5 speed i hope), and go with a suspension, though it will not make you go faster you it'll help immensely in cornering...with all that you should blow him away. 340+hp you should beat him....and your max will be hooked up! reducing weight is great also but it soon comes to a point from changing a normal car into a strip car.

AHH, to the previouse couple posts. What are you guys thinking? HEADERS AND Y-Pipe and then the turbo? You need totaly different exhaust system to have turbo done. Just do the y-pipe & headers combo, intake, stilen supercharger, and ECU, and you will need a new clutch and exhaust and you will smoke the living **** out of G35. Believe me. If you install it all yourself you will spend around $5,000. Save the rest for anything that will break down when you boost up the hp. You should have around 280-300 at the wheels

meh...454s had horrible compression, and after all those years, i dont know how well one of those would be doing. Sell the max, and with that additional 7k, you COULD have a fast car...it would be kinda hairy, and not much of a daily driver
#22
Ait then, if we are going different cars. Go get a late model 92 TSI AWD put a big downpipe on it, slam a k&n on it, cut out the MAF comb then go smoke him by 4 cars and go home
#23
or you could mortage the house, and afford the down payment on something really fast...not the point

A friend of mine has G35 auto sedan in the complete base model (cloth, much lighter 16s) and I've run him numerous times at the track. He runs 14.7-14.8@95-96mph to my 14.4-14.5s@97-98mph. His only mod is an intake, but his best was without the intake (14.70@96mph). On the same day at the track, I ran a 14.40 to his 14.81. Another G35 6 speed sedan has shown up before and his best is a 14.60@96mph with a VERY nice 2.1 60'. A modded 4th gen Maxima can beat a G35 in straight line, especially from 0-100mph, and it won't take forced induction.
My car and mods:
96 SE 5 speed
MEVI
JWT ECU
hacked airbox
UDP
y-pipe
2K muffler

OK....Wtf are you guys talkin about sell your car? First off Why? Second off i don't think thats what he had in mind.... with 7k you can make your max faster in the quarter mile than a brand new corvette z06.... look in the turbo forum at what some of thoses guys are running... Either Supercharge OR turbo (between 2k-4k) and your beating a g35 EASY if you wanna go the easy way y-pipes and a 75 shot of nos with all the regular bolt on's and you've got him easy...."sell your car" lol yeah sell your car for 7K + your 7K thats 14K down on a Subura Wrx Sti, you'll smoke him and most anyone else who tries, or you could go with a lancer but they're pure rice =)

As I said get a supercharger and supporting mods and you will laugh at him and get some springs with good tires (NITTOS). Crazzzy smoking.

Sometimes i think those civic hooker uppers arent as dumb as we think they are. No replacement for displacement...except F/I

Get your basic mods first....
Y-Pipe
Injen or Hybrid Intake
Unorthodox Underdrive Pulley
Then get a custom exhaust set-up at your local muffler shop, I say 2.5 inch to 2.75 inch piping all the way through, go stainless steel. Add a High Flow Cat to that cuz your exhaust is only as good as the smallest diameter that your exhaust has.
You could also upgrade the clutch.
Add the much coveted MEVI along with the ECU upgrade.
Add the turbo OR supercharger.....
The turbo and mevi combo would kill
Remember it all comes down to personal prefrence. Thats what I would do. I doubt you'd need any Nitrous, but hey personal preference.
There are still many other things you could do but I dunno how much everything would cost. You still may need handling components i.e. Front Strut Bar maybe even a rear sway bar. Some Z-Rated Tires, and some lowering springs, many to chose from. Research alot, I hope you don't think this is a weekend or a week long endeavor.....
But hey Good Luck

If you want good handeling out of the turns you need good power to match it too, so just go with a supercharger. Believe me it's a ***** to keet the engine underboost thru the turn on the turbo.

Call the guys at www.pfispeed.com. I called them about a year ago when they first had the turbo kit that customaxima now sells. They told me for $5000 I would get dyno b4 and after and the full install of the turbo and intercooler and have it done in about a week. So if you have the time for that drive to colorado and leave it there for a week, do that and you still got 2 g's to spend on other goodies. Clutch, y-pipe, exhaust, UDP, intake..etc. Just a suggestion though.

There we go again. you can't get a y-pipe after you put turbos on. different exhaust you need to make a custom downpipes. Also you need more extensive upgrades to support turbo. Believe me you will start breaking parts. Turbo is hard to manage.

You're right those guys do make a custom downpipe for you as well, that was my bad...damn mornings. And why do you say that stuff will start breaking..maybe if you are running the boost higher than 6-8 psi then stuff will start breaking. And besides it's not like he would be running the car hard all the time. And what upgrades are you talking about?
#39
I don't know I have a DSM and it's really hard to manage all the **** on the turbo. You might hit a fuel cut, piping starts leaking. And since Maxima is V6 you would have to run twin turbo, which would be expensive and useless since you are only running a 6-8 psi. It would be much cheaper and better to go with a supercharger. Plus you can set it up yourself.
Stillen one is like $3500 with everything, but I would much rather go with Vortech turbine like supercharger.

So, if the G35 coupe is front drive. And the AWD system only works when the other wheels spin. Does that mean.. The front wheels are the drive wheels normally. But the rear wheels will kick in if they sense slip? =P Kinda hard to sense slip if the rear wheels aren't being driven. How about them front drive G35s? =P
