You could just get the 5 speed shifter trim piece with the actual boot and get an aftermartket shift ****

should be the same shape.. the cutout part will be different, but the overall shape of the piece should be the same, or else the dash would have to be diff. for the 5 speed and auto..

I think it will fit, but the only difference is the hole for where the shifter sticks out of...this is just a thought, never actually seen anyone do this

Rather than try to make the car something its not, why not try to find a nicer looking gear selector, or maybe even make one?

Get a 5spd conversion.

Yes the manual shift trim will fit and the difference is that the manuals opening is slightly larger than the automatics trim.

heres a pic of when I was auto. call it rice if you like because I already converted to 5sp

um...there are plenty of ways to do it. but the ones that ACTUALLY look like real 5 speeds (sorry Vyrus and nismos, no offense) require that your trans be "unlocked" at all times. you can still use an over drive button (or you can make it always on) but its generally stupid you have an auto, get a nice auto ****

what do you mean always "unlocked" as in torque convertor? (not that I care since I dont have auto, just curious)

yea...like i said. looks good, but not cool if you bump it. If you throw a gear the tranny cant take (into reverse while moving forward, down shift beyond redline) it just wont shift, or catch a gear...park is something to worry about. OR would you still have to push the brake to go in or out of park? hmm...still stupid

call me stupid sxn but i have no idea what you mean? vyrus' **** has the button on top so it needs to be pressed in order to change gears, just like the stock shifter. so why are you saying to get a nice auto shift **** when he has one? maybe i'm just reading this wrong, i just don't get it...

cyrus, glad to see you got rid of the ol' baseball looking leather shift **** thing you had going before and got a black boot! looks 100X better!

what he was saying is that instead of using the shift **** pictured above, you can convert it so its like a manual and it can use any manual shift **** (because generally the manual shift ***** look better) but in converting it the button is lost so instead of pushing it, its like its always pushed in as if there was tape holding it. I hope that helps to clear it up.

you did read it wrong. first i said he (hollaatchaboi , who was asking the question in the first place) could use a REAL 5 speed ****, (unlike vyrus, who i used an example) but then i suggest to him (hollaatchaboi) that he just simple buy a nice automatic shift mod instead of doing the "unlocking" trick.

Nismo's shifter is a Razo Quick Shift. There is no button. All you do is push down on the thing. see http://www.inlinefour.com/razatshifkno.html

well its a gated shifter, and the 4th gen is linear, just straight forward and back. the gated pattern is different, gears are in different locations (our shifters arent really supposed to move side to side) you would either need a new shift mechanism, or an entire tranny ( ) to make that work

why the hell you want your auto to look like a manual? The best and best looking way to get that 5-speed look. is to have one.

there have been some talks about the 5th gen shifter and the celica shifter. i wonder who has done them. I like the Rzo ****...just need to relocate the O/D button.

The shift boot on an auto is wierd. It looks fine, but i got confused with what gear i was in (a friend of mine did this to his galant). If we had the gear position selctio on the dash (between the tach and spedo) that would work flawlessly.

Actually that cannot be done on a Maxima. You would not be able to turn the car off since our transmission has to be locked to do so. I guess you could keep the key in the ignition, but come on NOBODY is that stupid. Nismo's is very close though and most people couldn't tell its an auto since they make manual shifters that our identical. I wanted a more contoured **** and something with less steel so I went with the Ichibahn. I'm not trying to hide that I'm an automatic, that's the last thing I'd be embarassed of. I just think it looks much nicer with a boot, as most expensive foreign cars now come with (BMW, Lexus, Porsche etc.)

It can, and has been done. We have the cutouts for the LEDs in our bezel. Just not wiring or lights.

i am not arguing at all. I did not flame him. i just wanted to know why. if you want it to look like a manual why didn't you just get a manual. but thanks for barking at me.

um, i thought if my trans was in park, but the button was still pressed i could turn it off...havent looked into that, but i will take your word for it. Its a mod that can be done on automatic cars, but i dont know anyone whos done it on a maxima (one guy lowered his shifter, and it accidentally became always unlocked...and i do believe he drove it around like that) i guess im wrong thats life Just curious, but could you do it with a remote start system maybe? who knows
