i was about to say the exact same thing...looks real nice during day time, i guess seeing it in person does it more justice than pics. 10 cool points for doing the job yourself.

Thanks for your feedback guys!! I'm happy with the finished product. Sorry for the blurry pics, the gauges are nice on the eyes and very clean!

The bulbs behind the cluster show up as a white/blue because its a normal 194 bulb, with a light blue gel cap that covers the bulb.At least thats how it is on my '95.

I didn't use the mod...You only have to use the mod for 98's and up. The 194's fit right in my 96.

Here are mine Red Gauges. I used regular red 194 from Autozone (sorry, don't remember the brand). At night they look nice and red, but I wish they were more bright, during the day and evening it sucks cause they are pinkish or not visible at all. First I wanted to get either 4LED 194 bulbs, but guys say they have hot spots, I don't want that, so probably will try this 6LED 194 from superbrightleds.com

or this 1LED bulb.

Another alternative are Polargsm but they are costly and some guys said they may melt sockets a little because of the higher wattage.

My gauges:

does anyone know which led would be better? are there really hot spots with the 4 led bulbs? and if so, wouldnt there inherently also be hot spots with the 6 led bulbs? is the single the way to go?

Does anyone happen to have an extra Polarg Hyperwhite 194 they could sell me? I just need one as I bought 4 and since I only need 5 I was wondering if someone here had an extra one for sale.

OK guys, I did lots of search today but still did not arrive to the conclusion what bulbs would give the brightest red. Did anyone deal with this, tried different bulbs in?

SNX: you did the mod to fit 194s? they look good, i got the stock gauges still...so red on black would be nice. Someone do this with blue so i know what it looks like

myke321:You only have to do that MOD for 97's and up.

kevlo911:98 and up, 95-97 have the same thing(194)

so which one is it snx???? who is right?????

I tried those 1 LED bulbs from superbrightleds.com. I had the white ones but they make my speedo and fuel gauge look blue and my tach and temp gauge look kind of purple. I think it would look fine with red though, the color will probably be more even then with the white.

Has anyone tried PIAA bulbs for a superwhite look, and if so what ones?

So were those 1 LED bulbs brighter than your stocj bulbs. Though you say there was some miscoloration, was improvement visible?

Thanks!

from what I understand, someone else did this mod on their red 99 se-l. . . except since the 98/99 does not use 194's stock, he opened up the cluster and did some soldering to get the 194's to fit. (194's are NOT going to work on 98-99 without some electrical knowledge and skill) He used white bulbs though, and from the pics he took they look amazing, just like lexus / new accord gauges.

thats right, his 99 se-L (chris to be exact) used 194s after he did the mod. the link you see on this page was made by him, showing how to do the mod, very helpful, and it looks killer.

The brightness was about the same and looks fine, but the side with the tach looks slightly darker if you're looking for it, probally shouldn't be a problem with a color like red or blue though.

they look pretty good. I personally like the way they look stock in the SE...with the white in the day with black numbers and exactly reversed at night.
I just cannot read the red as easily though.
