Maxima Dual Exhaust with 2 Mufflers no Cutting

I remember seeing a 4th gen on the board with dual exhaust with 2 mufflers and he didn't modify the spare wheel hub. The mufflers were real small or something. I'm not talking about people with dynomax dual exhaust (with one muffler) btw. Does anyone have pics of this car or know where I can find them, or a link to a thread? Thanks

I dont think theres a way to put in a muffler on the drivers side without punching in the spare tire. Theres no room between it and the evaporator for the gas tank. I did the flowmaster dual exhuast and even with a 2.25 diameter pipe, it had to be slightly bend down around the evaporator because I didnt want to damage the spare tire. All you see on mine is twin chrome tips. It looks sweet, the way a maxima should've looked stock.

I'm almost postitive that somore one posted it. As I recall he sold it here too, but Ant, can you post pics of yours. How big are your tips? And did you cut the hole in the bumper yourself?

Wouldn't that be what we call a fakey that costs the motor HP? 2k4 BMW 545i has single exhaust. Kinda weird that Honda has been faking it since '99, and Maxima started faking it 5 years later. It's a pure marketing move, and another example of how out-of-touch Nissan is!

I doesn't cost horsepower as long as the piping isn't too big.

I dont have pics but its basically the same as the Custom Maxima one. The tips are 4" and barely stick out of the bumper. The hole was cut with an electric saw, its plastic so its easy to cut yourself. Just measure the original side in height and length. When i get pics I'll post them up.

Your right it is a marketing move, but I dont really see it as costing HP only because the way the exhaust flows through the muffler. I wish I could draw a diagram but Its the way the muffler is made. One side has an inlet that is almost a straight to the outlet and a hole on the side for the second outlet. The way I see it, even if there is some back pressure or its not exactly straight theres always another exit for the exhaust to flow. The second outlet goes around the spare tire well in front of the rear beam and comes out the drivers side. But like you said, in all reality its only a cosmetic mod, theres no real big HP gains. If you want to get technical, its more unnecessary weight.

Yes he did and I had talked to him right after he put it on, he had to beat the crap out of his spare tire well to make it fit. I dont know about you but I wouldnt want to drive around with no spare tire.

Thats the exact same setup im in the process of doing, getting rid of my dynomax dual exhaust in favor for the flows.

As for driving around with no spare, i think its pretty much useless if your lowered. Also if you got AAA or any kind of roadside asistance your all set. Or if you cool enough to have a full size spare....
