Corner Lens Issues *grumble*
Recently, ive been having issues with my aftermarket corner lights (hyperblack clear corners) They fit fine, and the front half of the lenses (closest to the front of the car) is totally secure, but the back part of the corner lights isnt fitting snug. The stud that holds it into the plastic retainer on the bumper isnt big enough. They are clearly smaller than stock, and one side (the side that keeps falling out) seems smaller than the other side. This causes them to fall out WHILE im driving. i had to stop on my drive home last night on the side of the freeway in the pouring rain to just take it off so it would stop falling off i was not happy about that. I know there is a way to hold them on with a bolt...but how, i cant picture it. I thought about using the stock studs, but they are a different thread type, and wont go into the new corner lights. Also, i tried wrapping the stud end with some electrical tape (ghetto yes, but an idea) to make it fatter, it must have gotten wet because the stud just slipped right out of the tape when the corner light fell off. I am officially sick and tired of this, and i need some help! When i search, it either times out on my 56k, or i get nothing about what im looking for... please help me

did you try using the stock ones? (the clip that the screw plugs into then goes into the bumper)
i used caulk in mine to make sure they don't come out. they're more difficult to take out but stay in nicely. when i take them out, i break off the old dried caulk and re-apply. does that make any sense?
have you read the threads that talk about bolting them in, btw? some people reach under the bumper and secure them in that way.

try unscrewing the stud alittle so that it goes farther in to the cup or what ever you call that, it worked on a friends car.

yea, there are even insructions that talk about using a hex nut...i dont get that. But you are misunderstand me. The front lens is fine, and held it with the stock screw and clip retainer. but that only holds the FRONT half in...the back half is the one falling out with the stud that pushes into the plastic retainer...

I had a similar problem when i installed mine. The hex nut is on the back. Its gold colored. I assume thats what you've been trying to use? If not i dont know what you've been using. Take that hex nut off the back(10mm i think). Then pop out the plastic piece thats on the car. Now remove some of the fender liner to get your arm up there. You have to screw that hex nut in thru that hole into that back of the light. One thing though. The screw is too small and will go thru the hole. You need a washer. So it should go like this:
Light--body--washer--hex nut.
That should do it. Unless you have my problem. The hex nut is too short. I couldnt get it to thread in even without a washer. So i ended up using one of the screws i took out of the body. Seemed to fit pretty good. And the lights havent fallen out yet, so i guess it worked. Let me know if none of that made sense. I'll try and explain it better.
You ever get those damn red/clears put in?

ok, mine came with a stud on the small part of the light, it DOES have a hex bottom, but the top part is a stud made to stick in the plastic retainer. im guessing what you are saying is taking the stud OFF, and then using it like a bolt? what parts should i take off to get better access to the back of the light...it seems very out of reach

Yea you have to use the hex as a bolt. It just threads in there.
Dont forget to pop out the plastic piece that on the body.
Its kinda a pain to get back there. You'll have to get on your back for this. Look under the edge of the fender in front of the wheel. There will be a couple of screws. Take them out. One is attached to a metal bar/bracket. One the other end is another bolt. Take it out. Nearby is one more, also remove it. Should be like 4-5 bolts/screws i beleve. Now take the 2 screws out of the fender liner infront of the tire. Now you should be able to pop the plastic on the bottom out. Pull it back towards the rear of the car. The front should pop out below the metal frame/bumper area.
I know it sounds weird, but its not that tough. Once thats popped out. That should give you access to the back of the light. Mind you , you'll have to lay on your back to do it. But thats how i did it.
Any more questions just ask. Its dark out, but i might be able to swing some pics if you needed. Just get under there and take out all the screws/bolts you see holding the plastic gaurd in place. Should be straightforward.

Well, i think im sucessful, but a little different method than suggested. You recomended use the stud for a bolt, but after it went through the body tab and a washer...there wasnt much left, and i just plain and simple didnt like how it was on there. As it turned out, part of the back half of the corner was rubbing against the front half, and wasnt letting it lay flush and really *click* in there. so i filed some off, and then it sunk in a lot better, and deeper into the bumper. THEN i used a zip tie around the plastic retainer that holds the stud. I used a zip tie torquer, and got it incredibly tight. This means that the stud is held fast, and physically cannot come out of the bumper unless the plastic strips our, rips off the zip tie and manage to still flop off. Its a lot more secure, and fits more flush (and seems more secure) than with the hex nut method. Im really happy now, and my tails are on with RVT silicon and looking good Im going to take some pictures later, when i finished tonight it was late and dark. thanks a lot guys, i just needed some confidence (and those instructions on taking off the plastic pannels was incredibly helpful!) thanks again

it was just that the screw method looked like it was going to strip out the threads on the back of the light. it wasnt long enough so once it had gone through the body and a washer, little thread was left to tap into the light and hold it secure. This way its secure, snapped into place, and i fixed a minor flaw in the design (that extra bit of plastic probably kept the screw method from working too...hmmm) anyway, thanks man

what he said.. all you have to do is unscrew the thing maybe a turn or two and it holds in like it should. regular diamond clears have the same problem, especially when it's this cold out
