Can someone tell me whats wrong? Alternator?

My car will not start. I turn the key and it doesnt turn over. I replaced the starter a few months ago. My headlights and stereo work. It has been kind of iffy for the last week or so but now will not start at all. Last week, I had the same problem and was able to jump it. Now, jumping doesnt work at all. Im I correct in assuming it is the alternator? Thanks

It might be that the alternator is bad. In 4th gen maximas, there is a recall on alternators. It could be that the alternator is defective.
To make sure check the top of the alternator, there should be a sticker on the top. If the sticker is silver then you have a defected alternator. Tell the dealer that you have a defect in your car, they will fix it for free.

[no- now it doesnt turn over at all= I would think if it is the alternator I wouldnt have been able to make the 4 hr trip back to school after I made that last jump. I would think its the battery that is TOTALLY dead, which is why i cant jump it, but my stereo and lights are still on. Im stumped, I guess I will swap out a battery or take it in to a mech.

Could be the battery too. A good alternator can't charge a bad battery. The cold will tell you when its time to do something to your charging sytstem.

My friend on his really old 3rd gen had that problem. His cousin wired some wire with a switch from the battery to the starter if I remember right, but I think you could of just blew the fusable link or fuse I don't know what maximas exactly have. So check that wire. Also you could just have a powerdraw somewhere in the circuit. You could also take out your alternator, batter and a started and get it tested in autozone (I'm pretty sure they can test for power draw in the circuit).

Oh yeah try to clean up the connections on the starter maybe there isn't any contact (had that problem with my POS civich)

It could be another bad starter. Where did you get it from? My friend had to go through three re-manufactured alternators from Kragen before it finally worked on a consistent basis. Another thing you could try is use a voltmeter to test the battery and the connection to the starter. If you have a good battery and starter but a bad alternator, your car should still try to turn over, it just won't start. Good luck.

DUDE. Same Exact Problem. No Kidding.
Checked Battery Level. Within parameters.
My alarm works, my horn works, my lights, my high beam, even my sound system witn a 400watt amp still works.

BUT, the car still won't turn over.
All it does is clicks when I try to turn the ignition on.

Did you resolve your problem?
How?

My car is sitting in a vacant parking light.
I'm not really comfortable leaving it there, but oh well.

What Is The Problem?
I have Juice. I have Fuel.
Why Won't It Start???
Anybody???

Dudes, I think I figured out what was wrong with my car.

I got a hammer and a tapped on the starter and the engine turned over.

I guess I need a new starter.

Thought I should share.
