I need help on installing springs on rear.

I decided to install spring and shocks today. So I started, having no trouble on the front side, but having trouble trying to get springs on rear. I took out the shock assembly out of the car, but I can't take off the very first bolt of the rear strut assembly. when i turn it, not only the bolt turns but everything else turns. So I can't take that bolt off. Somebody help me

that never happened to me, but try putting the rear shock back in the car, bolting everything back up, and then take the car off jackstands so its resting on the springs... then try loosening the top nut..

how did you take off the front, thats usually where the whole thing turns for me

Use an adjustable wrench to grab the nub on top of the assembly and then turn the nut with a box end wrench.

If your not saving the old shock you can grab the shaft with a vice grip. That will hold it from spinning but will also distroy the shock.

P.S. You don't need to compress the spring in the rear, there are not under much preload.

Also, there is a special shaped socket you can get that fits on the flat part of the bolt. You can get that to hold the top and use a wrench.

I read in another thread that you are supposed to loosen that bolt while the strut assembly is still on the car. I never did it myself though

Ditto, This is exactly what i had to do. My struts were blown so there was no need to save them.
