My check engine light is giving a bad EGR code. The car runs perfect though. I have had the light reset twice and it always comes back on with the same code.

The EGR valve is not where the chilton manual diagram says it is on my 99 maxima. From what I understand, it is normally on the right side of the engine near the air filter. I went to the dealer and asked them where it was and the guy from the parts counter came out to my car and he couldn't find it either, but the service dept. wanted $230 labor to fix it. He order the "EGR Valve" and I have it now. The part however says BPT on it, what is that all about?

So if anyone knows what could be causing this EGR problem, and what I need to check and or replace, and where the EGR is on a 99 max - please share the knowledge.

The egr is under the throttle body and buried under many many wires. It took me a while to find mine as well. You'll have to remove upper air box, maf, and accordian thing to get to it. There's also a diagram on the underside of the hood that shows where it is on my 97. Hope this helps.

 

I removed the air manifold, the acordian thing, and all that crap and I still couldn't see it. I looked way down under all those wires and vaccum hoses and I couldn't find the thing anywhere.

I will look for that diagram under the hood, that's one thing I haven't done.
