SE-L was available without leather, SE-L doesn't mean it has every option. SE-L had the titanium badging and the SE-L badge / SE-L Floormats. Other than that I believe they werent much different than regular SE's as far as options go. ( correct me if im wrong)

mreos open your drivers side windows and lock up your car.

wait a few minutes then go to your car. physically reach into the inside your car and unlock the door and open it. do not unlock it with keyless entry or the key. it the horn starts going off then that is the alarms. ;p.

If the alarm starts to go off, how would you turn if off if you don't have a keyfob?

Ive seen alot of SEL without leather.........my opinion is that SEL should be fully loaded, every option....if not why is it limited?

I have a SE but it sure is special to me. its fully loaded....
It was Nissan's intention for the SEL to be pretty much loaded out. However, just to say that you have an SEL, they made them with any variety of options. All the SEL's have Titanium colored wheels, not silver. All of them have the badging, and all of them should have different mats that say SE-L on them. If they don't have those, they are not SEL's or fake ones as you called them. I guess someone could put badging on an se and try to get away with it.
If you have leather like mine, the seats would say SE Limited on them, and everything would be tricked out, even the homelink in the visor. However, it was pretty common on foreign cars to still not get ABS in 1999. Mine doesn't have the ABS or the positive rear end(because you could only get that on the autos and I would rather have a 5spd.). They were still believing in the 4 wheel disc brake more than 4 wheel disc anti-lock then. Now, it has become a pretty standard thing on most cars.
FYI.

Kool. Since we're on the subject, I noticed on ebay how they sell the keyfobs for $25.00 or so - my SE-L didn't come with one (I wasn't trying to pay $250 or whatever the cost was). If I bought one off ebay, could I program it for my car, or would I need extra stuff to support it?

I am pretty sure that you will be able to use it and program it, as long as it is a nissan fob and it goes to a 99. I had the dealer do mine (I worked at a dealership, and just found a couple of remotes and had them reprogrammed), and they didn't even charge me. It doesn't take but a few minutes. There is something to do with putting the key in and out of the ignition and then holding down the buttons on the fob. I don't know what the pattern is, but I would recommend taking it in to the dealer and getting them to do it.

Do you know anyone who works at a dealership....Nissan or not? The reason I ask, you might be able to get someone you know to look in the box of spares and see if he can find you any. Usually, dealerships end up with spare remotes from used cars, that get misplaced or just lost and then, they will never get used. Especially if it is not a Nissan dealership, those fob's are useless. That is how I got two to get programmed and one for a spare when that one goes out. I don't work there anymore, but I hooked up my friends some. Just a suggestion. I just would try that first before paying for an ebay auction.
Good luck with it either way...

I have a black SE-L I picked up with only 26K. Had my eyes on a max for years. It's an auto but I still luv the car. I have done nothing to it(ah! a virgin) thus far due to budget$$. What do you folks think about putting a better air filter on? K&N? Stillen? Is it really worth the $$ Some engineering gurus I work with (one also has a Max) said to leave it alone-may allow some particulate into engine?? What's the real story?
Thanks

I love my red SE-L, couldnt have gotten a better car, drives smoooth as silk. Any of you have TCS? I know I do with mine, but It doesnt really help, whenever I start out quick at a light, I usually end up spinning the tires anyways, the max just has too much power....

Hmmm, I didn't know that. Is that NA? I wish I have this SE-L, it puts down 230hp and 260-ft. torque to the front wheels. That's 40hp over stock. What did you do to get the 57.6 extra hp's, that's not how it came from the factory does it?

He was being sarcastic. The SE-L has nothing more then different color gauges, rims are titanium, the badges and the floormats with logo's. Thats all there is to an SE-L as far as I know. That and it means the car was a 99.5!

You could have gotten Sherwood Green. Nothing says fast like a dark green car. Thats why you see so many exotics painted this color.

Plus, it's easy to keep clean and doesn't show the paint chips, not that I have any.

I'm heavy on the sarcasm.

You can find out about the alarm issue by rolling down the window. Locking the car, waiting a minute or two then trying to unliock the car from the out side ( reach in and unlock. If it blows, you got one, if not, you don't....

What kinda MAxima do I have? I think I have a base model or something ... lol ... its a 97 (THE BEST 4th GEN so :P lol) and i have power windows, locks, cruise ... thats about it. It doesnt say anywhere on the car or with the papers (its used... of course, and I think they just lost all that stuff along the way ....lol) its got the cloth interior (i like it better than leather cause my butt doesnt stick to it in the summer time..) and no digital thermostat or anything ....
I like it, just dont know what kind it is. It works for me cause I dont like leather and I dont like the sunroof on a car, so it for me my car fits perfectly, I just wanna know.
