Quick Question about changin' the belts...

On the site where it gives everything that needs to be done at the 60k mile mark, it says to loosen the bolt thats in the middle of the pulley.

heres the site:

http://web.archive.org/web/200111091...k_service.html

Please go and read to see if you don't know what I'm talkin about.

My question is that, my friend told me that he asked a mechanic and the mechanic said that loosening that bolt will cross the threads and i will ruin the bolt. Is there any truth to that? Please give me any info on this. I need to change my belts and would really rather not pay someone to do something so rediculously easy. (If I could only figure out exactly how to do it )

Loosening the bolt is the way to do it. Just enough to move the pulley up and down. The alternator belt is very easy to change. The power steering belt is much more difficult.

you must loosen that bolt, if you don't you'll simply break the tensioner and be out $55.
