Excellent write-up! Although I'm fairly new in maxima.org I know enough to realize that people like you make difference here. I will definitely refer to your write up when I do mine. Thank you!

well, i am not sure it blew. it just didn't work. maybe i did not do a good enough job on my soldering. but once i replaced it, it has been problem free.

but i noticed you said "bulb".... are you refering to my gauge write up, or the window switch write up?

I'm pretty sure that he was referring to a headlight bulb, not the LED. LEDs really don't "blow" very often. If they work the first time (unless they crap out in a few minutes from over voltage) they should last thousands of hours... probably longer than the Maxima itself!

ahh yes, this it true. my headlight bulb did blow on me, and so did one of my gauge bulbs. but like rdaneel said, led's do not blow. i am 99 percent sure it was just my error in bad soldering.

Chris just wanted to give you props to that write-up. I would also suggest If

you replaced the the LEDs in the manual climate control or hazards and defrost

buttons... go right ahead and do a write up for that also, you give great

directions...

And another quick question could you change thous blinker lights to blue as

well?

Thanks.

and as SXN already noted, i did already do my auto climate control. i did not make a write up yet... and i am not sure if i am going to.. just simply because when i did the whole project, i didn't take any pic's. so it would not be as good as my others.

and yea you can change the blinker lights to blue, but i wouldn't sugest it. i just got pulled over last night because of the red. oh well.

Chris, sorry I wasnt too specific but I meant the blinkers that are in the gauge, the two green arrows. Would changing the 5 bulbs out to blue also change the arrows as well or are thous separate bulbs???

And about the blinkers Ive had them blue a while but Im just lucky...

I am actually working on this right at this very minute, taking pictures generouslly so could make a write up later. I did my window switches like a month ago but in Red 5mm (I love that BMW look), but never could find time to do the write up.

So Great Job Blkmax95c, saves me sometime, read your write-up, I guess I couldn't do better
However it took me much less time and everything worked cool from the very first try - I am complete noob in this area too, did this first time

At the moment I am having difficuly taking manual climate control apart, browsing Org for info, maybe you guys have some tips - I cant get the blower regulator out which in turn hold the circuits..

anyone

Great write up! The pics are really well setup. I have a question for anybody that knows...It seems that in your window switches, some switches glow brighter than others....Why is this?

Hey Blkmax95c, question for you!

How many watts is your soldering gun? What is maximum allowed on the circuits of our Max? How long can the circuit be exposed to the heat? You mentioned that you are a noob in this stuff but I thought it does not hurt to ask.

The reason I ask is that it looks like I destroyed completely my climate control circuit. Though I got all LEDs to work, my air blows now only from the front vents, it won't swtich into feet and defrost...

Thanks.

I think i have a 55 watt soldering IRON. there is a big differance between a gun, and a iron. do not try to use a gun on this project... way to hard. recommended time for heat is approx 5 seconds. i at times keep it on the for 10 seconds, but that is pushing it.

sorry to hear about your CC. try to buy another from a junkyard or something, and try again! pratice makes perfect, and if you need help, just let me know. good luck.

Smaller LED's?? 3mm vs 5mm??

Great write up, here is a thought for you, try using smaller LED's not sure what size you used but looks like maybe 5mm? They do have 3 mm and they look more like the factory size so you could aviod the dremel stage. Just an idea, but again great write up, I'll use it when I do mine in a few weeks. Keep up the great work!!!

Thanks for reply Man! Yea, sorry, I meant to say soldering iron. I got MCC circuit out today, played with it for an hour and got everything working. As I mentioned in the process I destoyed few pathes on the circuit and tried to repair them with short pieces of wire. So when I put it yesterday in, two came loose, but now all works well. Anyways, Great Lesson for me! It's pretty messy but it works.
Practice Makes Perfect ! - That is one of my favourite sayings too

I used 5mm 5000mcd Red Leds, but the buttons are too dim. One led instead of a bulb is not enough to light up all that Plastic Transparent Light Caring Bar, (used 2 LEDs to ligth up blower speed selector). And there are hot spots.
People with Manual Climates, how you solved the problem of some buttons dimmer than the other?

People with ACC, do you also have that Plastic Transparent Light Caring Bar?

yes... i addressed that issue in my write up... you can avoid the dremel if you use the 3mm... but as SXN said, 5mm are better and brighter.

on the manual cc, you need to install more leds if you want it to be even. you can ask tony (affrillo) how to do this, and in what spots. ( i am not sure because i have an ACC.)

and glad to hear you fixed your problem!
