Removing a dash kit

I saw a post on this a while back but cant seem to find it. Can someone help me out and tell me how to do this? The person I bought the car from did a poor job in putting it on. My ashtray wont open on its own because the wood dash kit is slightly off.

Try using a hair dryer to heat up the pieces, and slowly peal the pieces away. Then use goo-gone or another cleaner to remove and left over residue. I wouldn’t recommend using a heat gun due to the fact that it can heat up the pieces a little too much. Just use patience, and you should not have a problem.

i removed the wood kit that came with my car by taking a putty knife and slowly wedgine it between the glue and the dash and just slowly prying and peeling, it eventually just popped off and i used goo gone to remove the residue, a few small scratches on the plastic when i was done but all in all it went well.

Yea it took me about an hour to remove the one in my car (I did it in the summer so I was aided by the sun) but just by using my finger nails and the tip of the screw driver to start the edge I was able to remove it without any scraches. Be careful to not scrape or pry against the dash board becuse you can leave marks or tear it. Thats why the hair dryer is best. Most of the parts came on in one peice, but a few did snap.

get a used credit card or something that you don't need, goo gone and a heatgun or blowdryer.

heat the surface up in sweeping motions, then remove the pieces and use the credit card corners to get the adhesive off
