Knock sensor changed, still get the code?!?!

Ok, gentlemen. This is absolutely ridiculous. I just bought a 98 SE 5-sp... I've been spending a lot of time trying to get it back into shape after owning a 96SE 5-sp for over a year and having it well-tuned.

I got the knock sensor code and proceeded to take the one out of my old car and put it in the new one because I know that it is good. After I did that, reset the ECU, cleaned the TB, and used BG44W, the car was running phenomenally. Then, last night while just cruising, the damn light came back on!!

What if my car really is knocking?! Would I hear it? I don't right now! I want my Max back, not this crappy Minima I end up driving because of the "safe table." Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks guys. ...and gals.

The knock sensor code is a ghost code and it will NOT set off the CEL. What other codes show up?

The knock sensor WILL set off the CEL if it is in fact sensing knock...Either way you should check the codes that come up...

3-11 code still comes up. That's an unknown code supposedly. Any suggestions? I just reset the ECU this morning and the car is running fine again, but it's going to get really old if I have to reset it every time I have to start the car, you know? I'm just concerned that my engine is actually knocking.

1) A knock sensor code can be thrown by itself

2) The knock sensor code will sometimes be thrown at the same time a front 02 sensor will be thrown. This is where the knock sensor "ghost code" stems from because there's nothing wrong with the knock sensor when this occurs. It's important to watch the CEL codes and make sure you don't have more than one code stored. The 02 sensor code is 0303 and the knock sensor code is 0304. I have no idea what "3-11" means. If you're trying to say 0311 then that's a undefined code.

3) If your car is still throwing the knock sensor code with a good knock sensor and the 02 sensors are good, then you need to check the knock sensor harness. This should have been done before replacing the knock sensor. We have seen quite a few bad harnesses.

so the knock sensor will turn on the check engine light? cause mine is on and i went to autozone and they checked it. the code was for knock sensor and EGR. i should check the harness and then if no luck replace it. How much do they run for? and what should i do about the EGR?

Fix EGR and reset the CEL and the knock sensor code will go away
